Re: ChunkVNC - Free Windows and Mac Instant Support Tool!
Do you use UPX at your end to compress InstantSupport.exe
Yes, the compiler included with ChunkVNC 3.1 has UPX enabled by default.
It is recommenced to only use the included version of AutoIt to compile ChunkVNC, currently this is version 3.2.12.1.
Compiling with a newer version of AutoIt will not only cause a larger file size but will also cause more false positive virus detections.
ChunkVNC 3.1 will compile InstantSupport.exe to 1.3mb without modifications to the source.
VirusTotal.com shows only 2 detections with ChunkVNC 3.1

Re: ChunkVNC - Free Windows and Mac Instant Support Tool!
Hi supercoe,
I was trying your ChunkVNC and I like it very much. It is much simpler to use and straight forward. Thanks.
I've managed to install repeater, compile it and port forwarding. But now the problem lies where i'm having trouble to connect to the remote pc. I've test my port using http://www.canyouseeme.org/ and it's a success. Could you tell me what went wrong?
In the repeater log it does not appear a log entry saying that "Server added to list ######". ? Also, i've an error saying "Reading proxy settings erro".
much appreciated for your help.

Please disregard my previous post... I've made it to work within my LAN. I haven't try it over the internet though... Your program is the best...i'm already loving it..

Supercoe,
It'll be nice if you can implement the screenrecorder... Another question in mind, can we possibly make the compilation "Instant Support" file smaller?

Re: ChunkVNC - Free Windows and Mac Instant Support Tool!
Supercoe,
There is a problem with localized Windows, you use the text "Windows Security Alert" to detect the firewall warnings but that text changes with every language, so in non-english systems the warning appears and must be closed manually.
I've done some mods to the scripts and now support different languajes (in compiler, viewer and client) and some minor (but useful) changes, if you want to take a look I can post it or just send a PM directly to you.
Regards

Re: ChunkVNC - Free Windows and Mac Instant Support Tool!
I was trying to change the port numbers, but why wouldn't i be able to do that? It seems that it's only recognise the 2 ports 5500 / 5901.
Can someone point me to the right direction.
Cheers.

If you change the ports when compiling InstantSupport.exe you have to manually change the ports that the repeater uses by clicking Options->Settings in the main repeater window.

Re: ChunkVNC - Free Windows and Mac Instant Support Tool!
Safe mode rebooting is possible but could be difficult to maintain support with many versions of Windows. It would be better just to install as a service, msconfig anything you don't want to start and reboot.

The purpose of this would be Windows Recovery via remotely. Will this be possible? My main purpose to use VNC is to provide support remotely and i'm trying to think all possibilities using this.supercoe wrote:Explain what you mean by "boot from CDs"...

Re: ChunkVNC - Free Windows and Mac Instant Support Tool!
Hi
First of all great app and thank you for sharing it.
I have tested this with my Windows 7 machine last night (after spending several hours reading and configuring) and it seems not to work with UAC. Basically I tried to install a program and the UAC prompt came up but I could not see it or disable it.
Does it have to be installed as a service in order to work with UAC?
I have also changed the text of the message boxes when closing the application because I felt that the words "shut down" would confuse a lot of our customers, and that the second message box where you click OK was not clear on what the user had to do. Just posting in case you agree
In ChunkVNC.au3 line 29 and in InstantSupport.au3 line 66 changed to:
In InstantSupport.au3 change 66 to:
Small changes I know.
Also, is there a way to reduce the size further? Maybe by not including the encryption modules? I am not sure how the InstantSupport.exe is created, but using 7Zip Ultra compression, all the files in the InstantSupport_Files get compressed to 770KB, would it be something you could consider?
Thanks again for all your work.

I can't see in the Compiler.au3 the commandline /pack? UPX compression isn't being used from what I can see. Unless I missed something in the codeYes, the compiler included with ChunkVNC 3.1 has UPX enabled by default.

Re: ChunkVNC - Free Windows and Mac Instant Support Tool!
I guess you could integrate ChunkVNC into a BartPE disc, but I don't see this being beneficial. If your customer has such a bad problem that you would have to do these kinds of drastic measures to repair windows remote support isn't really an option any more.losty__ wrote:The purpose of this would be Windows Recovery via remotely. Virus scanners constantly detect AutoIt scripts, I've done everything I can at the moment in choosing a AutoIt compiler that has the least false positives on virustotal.com
Either update your virus scanning software or get a better one.
BTW: what AV where you using?

It is stated on both the ChunkVNC homepage and the first post that you must use the Install as Service tray option to control UAC. I'll change the description for the next release to make this more clear.
I have also changed...
Thanks for sharing your code! I do prefer your wording.
Also, is there a way to reduce the size further?
The problem I had with creating a self extracting 7z is that the user would be prompted with windows security "Run boxes" more than I liked during the first run of InstantSupport. I'll look into it again as I didn't spend much time on it before and I do prefer small file sizes!

Re: ChunkVNC - Free Windows and Mac Instant Support Tool!
I just wanted to post my thanks for this GREAT wrapper! Well done, super easy to set up.
As soon as my wife gets off the kitchen PC (the only Mac in the house), I'll be customizing the OS/X client.
Any possibility for Windows Mobile and iPhone clients? I would be happy to participate and donate to get that rolling! I have iPhones and WinMo devices with WiFi and data plans ready to test on!
Thanks again!

Re: ChunkVNC - Free Windows and Mac Instant Support Tool!
Alot of antivirus programs wrongfully detect all Autoit applications as viruses ... you should submit the application to an online virus scanner (my vnc2me website has an example of an app i submitted - for your reference)losty__ wrote:Also, antivirus has picked up the program to be a virus? Packed.Win32.Klone.~KC@93479017
after you have found that most antivirus apps don't detect it as a virus, submit the application to your antivirus maker ... if everyone who got a false positive on autoit apps did this, then we wouldn't have this problem.
the main reason (i think) that antivirus applications detect autoit as a virus is because it is such a powerful tool, and sooo easy to learn (compaired to other languages) that there have been a few malitious apps writen in it ... so they ban them all just to be safe ... its like banning firefox just because a plugin once did something bad to a system (not quite, but you get my meaning).
hope this helps.

Re: ChunkVNC - Free Windows and Mac Instant Support Tool!
if you do decide to use 7zip ... the SCPrompt app has a good 7zip exe builder that allows for a config app to be run before it is created. thus making personalisation posible without editing source code ... much easier for people to update / upgrade in the future (also using an INI would help with this i think)supercoe wrote:The problem I had with creating a self extracting 7z is that the user would be prompted with windows security "Run boxes" more than I liked during the first run of InstantSupport. I read some posts about everything working on Win7 and thought I should share my experience. I have been able to run he Viewer from Win7 x64 and InstantSupport.exe from Win7 x86. I haven't tested it the other way around yet.
However I haven't been able to compile InstantSupport.exe from Win7 x64. However, I had no problem compling running an XP virtual machine. I used he free virtual machine feature that comes wih Win7 Pro.
It wasn't really a big deal, but I thought I should mention it.

@dcguy, what kind of problems did you have as I am running Win 7 Ultimate x64 and have had no problems compiling and running ChunkVNC.
I'd recommend re-extracting the source and making sure you have full permissions to the folder and maybe check your AV (Assumptions as you haven't clarified your problem).

Re: ChunkVNC - Free Windows and Mac Instant Support Tool!
dcguy,
As krash_control stated, check your AV. I've noticed that virustotal.com is reporting more false positives lately with the included AutoIt.
You could try updating the AutoIt compiler:
1) Download AutoIt http://www.autoitscript.com
2) Copy these files from the download to the SRC\Aut2Exe folder: Aut2exe.exe, AutoItSC.bin, upx.exe
Thanks.
guinness,
I was expecting to go stable last week but work has been busy, now Battlefield Bad Company 2 PC Beta is out and it's way to fun!
Also I've been spending some time adjusting the wording in the installation guide and learning how to use subversion! Glad you like ChunkServer it came together nice and simple. I continue working towards 4.0 a bit every day so a release shouldn't be to far away.
