Still not working.....

Post by fmdnetwork »

OK, I have been trying for 3 days and still can't get this to work so I am posting for help.

I have went to http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ and checked my port, 5900 and it is open.

I have my VNCViewer listening on port 5900 on this computer.

I have signed up with DynDNS and I don't really know why, when I try to use my domain name in the HelpDesk is doesn't work either. When I type my IP Address straight in the HelpDesk it doesn't work.

I have a Linksys Router and have set up port forwarding to the correct PC on port 5900.

So in short:

1.) Establish correct External IP Address.
2.) Port forward port 5900 to the correct PC IP address on the router.
3.) Verify the port is open using http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/
4.) Open VNCViewer in listen mode on port 5900 on viewer computer.
5.) Point helpdesk to correct IP address and port.
6.) Run SC on client computer, it has yellow icon for about 4 seconds and then closes.

I don't know what I am missing!

Here is my HelpDesk:

Ok, I've switched it back to going through port 5500:

[TITLE]

[HOST]
Eric
-connect xxx.xx.xxx.xx:5500 -noregistry

[TEXTTOP]
Dubble Click Eric to make a connection

I have port forwarding setup to the correct PC using my router, ports 5500, 5800, 5900, just like portforwarding.com says. When I run a port check using PFPortChecker it comes back closed. I have checked with my isp and they assure me they are not blocking ports. I have windows firewall configured to allow these through (it was already configured). My port is closed apparently and I don't know why. I do have it listening on port 5500 also.

Thanks for your help

Eric

OK, well the whole problem was my HughesNet service.

If anyone out there is trying to use the SC with HughesNet satelite internet service, it cannot be done until you contact them and get a Static IP Address. I had to upgrade my plan to the Pro Plus plan. Once I got that Static IP Address everything went through fine. Until you get the static IP Address your router does no forwarding of the ports whatsoever, even if you have then set up correctly.

So I had the ports forwarded correctly the whole time, the helpdesk correct, everything was correct my router was just never allowed to forward it to the correct PC.

So hopefully this will help someone else.
