How to SC or PCHelpware while on the road

Post by jjatsk »

Hello,
Here is my situation. I want to be able to support my clients while on the road if needed. I have one main computer at home which is my office as well and then my laptop which is my work computer.

I registered with DynDNS and have my address (name.selfip.com)

My wireless router at home has the DynDNS feature on it so i enabled that and is working

On my router (Belkin F5D8236) I forwarded ports:
Inbound port 5901 --> main computer ip --> Private port 5901
Inbound port 5500 --> main computer ip --> Private port 5500

Now what i am stuck on is :
1. what apps do i need on my Main Computer
2. What apps do i need on my laptop
3. Directions on installing them

Thanks for any help

if you want to support someone on the road, you don't need port forwarding at all

make it easy remote support
you can use this solution open source is a uvnc wrapper. no more and use the public repeater.

Sorry it took awhile to respond back. I was trying out both solutions and i ended up going with the chunkVNC with the repeater on my computer. It works very nice and exactly what i needed. Thanks for the responce and for the people who made these.

I did find one little hickup though when i was testing on a friends computer. He happen to have 2 monitors and when i would connect he said my mouse movement would show on the spare monitor but all i would see the main monitor. He disconnected the spare monitor and rebooted and then it was fine. Anybody ever come across that? Im sure it would be pretty rare that i come across that again when helping people but you never know i guess.

Thanks

Glad you like ChunkVNC!

Interesting problem with the dual monitors, I've never had that happen before.

Did you try clicking the "Switch Monitor" button the the viewer toolbar?
It will switch between each monitor and then it will switch to a viewer that has all the displays in one viewer.
