saving remote vnc profiles in uvnc viewer

Post by john3voltas »

Hi guys.
I am fully aware that this feature exists in tabbed_vncviewer.
I've been thinking, I was a big supporter of the tabbed viewer but then the only feature I miss is that one: saving profiles.
The ability to choose from a list of already saved nicknames instead of IPs and the automatic sending of vnc password are a must.
I can't see these features available on the standard viewer.
Is there any way or any free 3rd party tool that can give me these features?
TIA and have a magnificent 2010 ;)
Cheers

Hello and Happy New Year 2010

You can check the free 3rd party Netgotiator AlterEGO at
http://www.netgotiator.com/alterego.aspx

There is a nice Contacts system that is carried around
like messenger and saves notes and password for each
partner.

Check it out ...

Best Wishes for the New Year. And a big thanks to all UltraVNC
forum members for all their good ideas.

Finally a BIGGER thanks to Rudi, Redge, bevtech, Oliver, Ultrasam, X3,mattice06082 and all experts of the UltraVNC, without their hard work and their inspiration we would not be able to deliver any 3rd party tools based on UltraVNC...

Hi exillion,
Read your post, went to AlterEGO's site and looked all over to learn what AlterEGO has to do with UltraVNC.
I am open minded, and I can see when I am wrong.
If a day comes when uvnc is not the best remote management tool, I will give in and I'll start using somethin' else.
It's just that uvnc has everything I need, it's free, it's got encryption, it's low on host resources and it has file sharing embedded.
All I need is a profile manager to work on top of uvnc and it doesn't look like AlterEGO does that.
Unless if I didn't look up in your site properly.
Can you enlighten me/us?
Cheers

john3voltas,
yes, i agree.
I would be happy if user "exillion" work to open source community instead to made little update and take advantage of uvnc without any improvement code to the open source community back :-)

Hi guys.

I am sorry that you got my posting wrong.

First to john3voltas:
AlterEGO is a 3rd party service instead, not a straight forward
software like UltraVNC is.
We pay for hosting, bandwidth and give away FREE connections
to anyone that uses it, and more if he registers himself, with
no obligation for them. We do not make money from it, we
excpect income from our Professional Service.

AlterEGO actually uses TCP/UDP mediation methods and a lot of
other GUI logic to make life easier for people behind firewalls and in
general routers with NO open ports to get connected to each other.

Netgotiator technology is actually based on the mediation level.
We rely on plugins on top, to pass over the mediation channels and
with a nice easy logic, connect people using : VNC, RDP, Radmin,
Video etc... For our VNC method we choose to use UltraVNC because
it is stable, has file transfer and we like it :)
Not only because it is FREE. We have paid for another commercial
VNC product, but it is still unstable under C# and we do not use it
for now.

WE DO NOT RELY on UltraVNC to make business. We are just the
mediator service. People can use AlterEGO with a simple built in RDP
or commercial Radmin (if they own it), or even Video and any other
TCP based server/client app.

Myself, I am using it also with our Mail plugin to read/send mail
through its channels to and from my computer at the Office :)

And we paid for commercial software to serve our FREE service
called AlterEGO (I am refering to Xenocode, Smart-Code VNC activex,
WodVPN etc), as well as Code Signing Certificates, Web Certs etc.

So, please do not think that paying some 500$ monthly (including
Hosting) to keep up a FREE service like ALTEREGO is NOT an offer
to UltraVNC or OPEN SOURCE users out there ... If people do not
like us and do not support us, we will certainly not be able to keep
up. For two years now, we invest solely out of our pockets ...

I said too much and people might think I am excessive in defending
our service. Sorry about this.

Finally, about 800 users use AlterEGO for FREE.
Registration does not cost them anything at all, it is just a
way to help us support them if they need help, even for FREE.

Now, to Redge, I acknowledge his work and effort in the Open Source
area and in UltraVNC forums and do not want to be impolite.

It is just that we do not program natively in C++ but in C# so,
we cannot be of much help to UltraVNC source. Our modifications
of the code are only basic and help users not to feel strange with
the VNC plugin and we are actually trying to make usability easier
for them.
We WANT to be of help into Graphics of UltraVNC or Docs,
where we could do best. Please show us the way that UltraVNC
needs people to contribute in other ways than code and we will follow.

We took the decsion NOT to put Netgotiator under OPEN SOURCE,
but that may change in the future if people like our work. We could
always have some services to rely in making money out of these, and
mostly these services could be based on creativity in simple life
situations rather than code .

Regards

EXILLION

I see you added your software to doc.uvnc.com as third party
http://doc.uvnc.com

ultravnc GUI like tightvnc tooltip would be perfect

if i know, i would help but my english is very very limited.

Hey guys,

we have to come back to the ground of the headline. ;)

john3voltas, if you have start an uvnc-session, you will find an uvnc-eye on the left top corner on the viewerwindows, klick with the right mousebutton on this and you can save a filename.vnc file for the uvnc-session-options for the next session. If you start this file at the next time, the uvnc-viewer will started automatically. The tabbed_viewer use this mode of operation too. :) and save *.vnc-files in a tempfolder. If you start the tabbed-viewer again the tempfolder will be read and start the old VNC-Sessions.
Of course you must knew that the password is saved too, in DES encrytion, but it`s saved. This could be an security risk, if anyone else use the same pc then your one. Use it for saving on a usb stick, i do too.

bye

Hi twagner.
Thanks for pointing this out for me.
I've always overlooked uvnc's system menu.
I guess there's a lot of interesting stuff in there.

I wish there was a version of the regular viewer that would read the vnc connections saved in the temporary folder and show them in the button's bar instead of the IP address that we can see.
Say, why do all the shortcuts in the system menu show Ctrl+Alt+... and then there's an Alt+Ctrl+F3 with the Alt in front of the Ctrl?

hi john3voltas,
the different ALT and CTRL shortcuts are made buy develophistory of many different vnc versions like tightvnc, ultravnc, realvnc and so on. . . .
It`s no mistake.
