Repeater Creation Help Needed

Post by remoter »

Hello.

I have SC up and running using the ultravnc repeaters.

Next, I attempted to create my own repeater to use with it.

Both the server and viewer apps load. The viewer shows "Negotiate Protocal Version" with ID:9999 or ID:907. The reason both of these IDs are showing in the log below was that the 9999 version was with a 'ultravnc' repeater that worked and the ID 1500 attempt was with the repeater I created.

The Windows XP machine that's hosting the new repeater is the same as the server to test SC with the new repeater. I'm using a Windows 7 laptop for the viewer. I haven't seen any error message windows.

The 2 PCs just don't 'see' each other even though the same ID (ID 1500) is specified in both the helpdesk.txt and the viewer configurations. For the repeater, I'm using a subdomain:5901 for the repeater address since that 'server' PC uses a dynamic IP address. I am also using an external connection so it's not via the Intranet.

The repeater log shows:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Is the repeater software app the only app needed to create it besides forwarding the 5901 port? I forwarded the 5901 port using instructions that I used to forward the ports for the domain assigned to dynamic IP address. It setup TCP and UDP for the one port.
Also, what range of IDs can I choose from?
I seem to be so close, I think. Any ideas?
Thanks.
port 5500 and 5901 needed port forwarded on your router to your computer hosting repeater.
tested successfully with repeater108
ID range available 0 to 99999999 (nine numbers of nine)
both partner must use the same ID
anyway, you can have multiple partners with different ID
example:
success both ID match
viewer ID:1234 with server ID:1234
viewer ID:5555 with server ID:5555
fail both ID missmatch between viewer and server, can't connect.
viewer ID:1234 with server ID:4321 (or opposite)
viewer ID:1234 with server ID:5555 (or opposite)
Thanks for your reply, redge.
I forwarded port 5500 (TCP and UDP) then tried again for ID:1500. Here are the appended lines of the repeater log:
Thanks for your reply, redge.
Can I change the repeater port? If so, how do I know which one to choose that's less likely that another software would use? How to know which port to change?
To recap, I have the repeater on the same PC as the SC app I'm trying to use. I also have dyndns listening. I had closed WinVNC prior to testing the SC app.
Thanks.
did you follow the repeater step by step of Bevtech ?
[topic=4798][/topic]
> Can I change the repeater port?
port 443 can't be changed but can be disabled
port 5912 can't be changed but can be disabled
only port of viewer and server can be changed
you have two case at repeater108 interface for select
5901 port viewer listen
5500 port server listen
no problem,
this what we doing almost every users experience sc, repeater and vncviewer on same computer.
in this case, very important don't forget every time host_repeater:port
in my own case, i have set port 5501 listen server and 5901 listen viewer on repeater for override conflict and i close skype before start repeater in test lab.
Thanks for your reply, redge.
I've been looking for a tutorial for configuring repeaters so thanks for the one from Bevtech. I'm not sure why I didn't see it in the search results.
I double-clicked the repeater.exe icon in Windows XP. The instructions in the tutorial mentioned configuring it via the command line. Could this be the difference?
I also tried forwarding port 5501 and obtained the same results as 5500 as shown in the log file in my previous post above (re: Reading Proxy settings erro...). I can't think of any app that would be sharing that port and providing the error/conflict so I'm not sure what to try next. The viewer side seems fine. It's the server side and the repeater on that XP machine that is still the issue.
Also, in that tutorial, it mentioned testing via 127.0.0.1 -- that worked as written in the tutorial, too which is a good thing.
In the repeater settings box, I tried both Mode I & II together and Mode II by itself, modifying the server port as required (5500 and 5501).
I added the '0' in the 'Restrict access to server port' for Mode II. Since I'm trying the IP address with DynDNS, I unchecked 'Enable dynamic ip service'.
Other thoughts / configurations to check?
Thanks.
EDIT: btw - the port forwarding for both 5901 and 5500 (& tried 5901 and 5501) was made to the XP machine since that is the stationary location. I'm trying to login using my laptop (W7) via the viewer.
