[solved] Can't get SC to connect. Help a newbie?

Post by spacegazr »

I've got UVNC working very well with the client / viewer software, but I"m trying to get SC to work as well. I've created an EXE file and when I double click on it, it starts the small application. Then, when I double click to connect, it begins to connect, a yellow icon appears in the taskbar, it then turns green very briefly, then turns yellow again very briefly before disappearing completely. Help? :)

Thanks!

Have you forwarded your ports correctly?
Seems like it's failing to connect.

EDIT: Give us some more info, Operating system, SC version, etc...

I'm confident on how to open ports up for this and the other things.

Question #1:
Does SingleClick (SC) use the same port as the uvnc viewer? If not, what port needs to be opened for it?

I don't think that it's not connection... and the reason I think that is because when I double click on the singleclick icon to connect to the vnc, there appears a yellow icon in the system tray. That yellow icon then turns green for a about one second and displays the message that my screen is now visible to the other person, and then the icon turns yellow again and disappears completely. The fact that the icon turns green makes me think that the connection is being made, no?

Question #2: Are there any settings on the SERVER side that need to be made in the uVCN software? Are there any options that need to be turned on/off? How is the password handled? Is that part of the SingleClick .exe file?

As a side note, I have no problem at all connecting using the VNCViewer client software. It's only when I try to use SingleClick.

I really appreciate any help you can send my way!

Thank you!

P.S. I am using Windows XP and Windows 7. I've tried every SC version on the website... all with the same result.

The problem is you put in the IP of a computer on your local network.
You have to put in your WAN IP (the ip of your modem).
Find it at www.whatismyip.com
Don't forget to forward port 5900 on your router.

Nope... that's not the problem. (I had changed that to a local IP today because I was testing from within the network). Below is an updated "helpdesk" file for you to take a look at with my outside domain name instead of my inside IP address.

Just to be sure, I tried using this updated file on a computer offsite from the server and still the same experience:

It says "Connecting". Then the icon turns green and it says "Connected". Then the icon turns yellow again and disappears completely.

So... maybe I need to go back and ask a basic question here. I was thinking about this today and came to something that I might be (obviously) doing wrong.

The SC plugin is a VNC SERVER that someone else runs on their computer so that I can take over their desktop for support purposes, right? So what should I be running on MY computer? Don't I need CLIENT software that's "listening" for a request from the SC server? If so, what is that client software? I'm not using anything to "listen" on the open port... so what needs to be there?

Thanks!

you did not follow the rule of supercoe.

1
you, controller computer must run before SC start at controlled computer.
vncviewer -listen 5500

2.
SC use port 5500 (single click initiate an outgoing connection to your vncviewer listen on port 5500

-connect therapps.homeip.net:5900 <--- wrong
-connect therapps.homeip.net:5500 <-- correct

if you use port 5900, is normal SC it close itself since is an incoming port and reject/deny and then close.
