SIngle Click Extracting errors

Post by tesdall »

I had Single click vnc working fine. We pull it off a server every time we need to use it. Well, i just tried to run it and i get a 5% extracting then a 7-zip window that says "can not open output file" then an ok button. If i go to c:\documents and settings\%username%\locat settings\temp there is a temp folder in there with the VNC stuff, the background the helpdesk.txt and everything else. What could be the problem?

As i have not had anyone reply to this thread, I would like to give an update. Inside of the EXE is the helpdeskt, the icons, and the background. All from the custom.zip. As stated, it was working untill i placed a new Antivirus software on this machine. I have checked to make sure files could run from TEMP locations and it is showing up in the logs "would have blocked if this policy was on" so i don't believe its the antivirus.

When i try to open the exe file it says extracting 5% and then the error comes up. I have tried to download it multiple times deleting my temp files and also after it downloads right cicking on it and selecting unblock.

Any ideas on what i can try?

I downloaded 7-zip to try to see what options it would give me. I was able to extract the files out of the EXE except for WinVNC. I got the error message

# 0 Message Can not open output file v:\help\ithelp\winvnc.exe

help?

First check if the new anti virus is the cause, temp disable it.
If the software consider winvnc.exe as possible spyware, it block the creation or execution of that file.

There need to be an option in the software to manual overwrite this behaviour.

What's the software... possible other users had the same and know the settings.

I have done that, i have disable everything in it and still no go. I have added exclusions and all kinds of things to try to see if its the antivirus. McAfee TOPS (Total enpoint protection).

I hae contacted mcafee and they told me after going through the logs that its not their software that is stopping it. It doesn't even show up in the logs from i can see.

Actually it was the winvnc. sorta. ..ok not really.

I somehow had a botched McAfee HiPS install were it was running but not syncing with the McAfee EPO server. Nor was it showing up next to the clock where it was supposed to.

So i had to manually remove hips (man was that not fun) by going into safe mode and following KB article 51699. Once that was removed i had to get a updated version of hips installed on the EPO and it pushed it out to my machine. Once it was there i was able to disable hips for testing and the winvnc tool worked.

I have since added an exlusion in the HIPS (host intrusion protection service application blocking) for winvnc.exe and all seems to be working great.

EPO - Electronic policy orchastrator (mcafees web based client/server antivirus manager portal)

any questions to what i had to do to fix this please let me know.
