connection loss sometimes
connection loss sometimes
Hi,
I downloaded and installed ultrVNC server and the viewer on another pc. When I make a connection to the server it sometimes works and sometimes I get my screen for 1 second and then the connection is broken.
What can be the problem?

Re: connection loss sometimes
Active the viewer reconnect, viewer options.
This happen in background.
In some cases, like after logon the server need to reinitialze, this
cause the server to reconnect.

Re: connection loss sometimes
Can you explain it a little bit more because I don't completely understand what you say.
Is there a setting to solve this problem?

Re: connection loss sometimes
Sorry, my bad
The vncviewer has an option called "reconnect".
viewer -> option button
If you put a value in this field 1-5, the viewer auto reconnect
to the server in case connection is lost. ( Like when the server reset)

Re: connection loss sometimes
But why is the connection broken? That should not happen in the first place.
Re: connection loss sometimes
This happened with a connection from the internet but also from inside the lan...

Re: connection loss sometimes
The connection break because we implemented it in the server this way.
This is needed because from Vista, you have isolated sessions.
The server is started in the logon session, but after logon all happen in
the user session. Winvnc started in the logon session is isolated and can't interact with the user desktop.
The service notify this and tell winvnc that he need to stop in the logn session and restart in the user session.... this is the break you see.
This is indeed independed of the network.
In the future, we possible move the network part to the service, so we can keep the network alive and just restart the input/capture part.
But this has other disadvantages
ISA proxy is user based and service run as system
Many firewalls are user based...
I hopes this clarify it a little.

Re: connection loss sometimes
Does this happen when you connect FROM a vista pc or does this happen when you connect TO a vista pc?
Why is it that sometimes it does work and sometimes it doesn't?
Will the connection remain after auto reconnecting (using the option you mentioned)? (I will test it when I can)
If you answer in Dutch, thats ok for me too...

Re: connection loss sometimes
If you add the autoreconnect option, the viewer stay open and wait in
background for the server to be available again ( 1-5 sec)
The breaks happen on session change
-windows logon
-windows logoff
-switch user
All other breaks are not normal. Only some Wifi networks intend to reset
the connections on heavy load.

Re: connection loss sometimes
And why is this behaviour not happening all the time?
At my place, I have a vista pc with VNC server and an xp client with VNC viewer and here I have no problem connecting to the vista pc.

Re: connection loss sometimes
Because it depend on the number of sessions and the almost
random use with multiple users.
user 1 logon session1
desktop user 1session1
switch user session1
desktop user 2 session2 --> break
logoff user 2 session2
logon user 1 sessionX -> break
desktop user1 session1
desktop user 1
rdp connection
logon user1 sesseonX -> breaks
desktop user 1 session1
random use with multiple users.
user 1 logon session1
desktop user 1session1
switch user session1
desktop user 2 session2 --> break
logoff user 2 session2
logon user 1 sessionX -> break
desktop user1 session1

Re: connection loss sometimes
I still don't get it.
Is there something I can do to test this at my place?
I have a vista pc with vnc server and an xp with vnc viewer.
What should I do exactly so after I connect to the server and I entered the password, the connection is immediately lost?

Henk
anyway the known limitation of viewer lost connection
can you use vncviewer quickoption other than auto
quick option auto is not very well.
winvnc -autoreconnect -connect host

winvnc should improve their way for catch logon/logoff vnc/rdp
anyway,
not possible until 1.0.8.0 under certain conditions
Logon user A
switch user B
Logoff user B
possible reconnect with ultravnc 1.0.8.1 (25 nov) and above is possible.
