I am able to configure the uvnc server and connect with the client.
However, I made some modifications to the admin properties -- for example setting the port to 5999, using DSM plugin, allowing viewer keyboard and mouse inputs. I found these inputs are not saved more than several minutes before reverting to defaults
If I leave my client-server connection up, it drops after several minutes.
I then am not able to connected unless I go under "Admin properties" and reset everything again or revert to default on the client side.
I noticed the ultravnc.ini is being overwritten too.
Why is the server reverting to default proprties on it's own and over-writing the .ini file? I am using from the lower right process bar (Windows Vista) and have installed WinVNc as a service
Should I revert to an earlier verison of UntraVNC server?

Re: resetting the ultravnc.ini every 10-15 min
permission issue's.
It looks like it's never saved to the file, so changes are in memory.
Next time you start ultravnc, the ultravnc.ini old value's are back.
When you click OK, (properties) does Vista give you the UAC prompt
and tell ultravnc try to change a file ? Without uac enabled this doesn't work. The popup give the location of a temp file, if vnc can't write this file, some default value's are saved....
Are you a local or domain admin ?
Winvnc as service need to be able to change his credentails to the desktop user... if this fail, nothing is written to the file.
2 Solutions that always work, independed the uac and current desktop user...
1) start "Edit Settings" from start->programs->ultravnc
(require a close of the server before changes are imported)
2) Run winvnc as application to make the changes

Re: resetting the ultravnc.ini every 10-15 min
Hello Rudi,
Thank you very much for the reply. I think you hit the nail on the head.
I re-enabled UAC and I just created a local user with Admin priv.
When I say ok after restarting the service and setting some admin properties, I do noticed the UAC details pointing to this file which appears for about 2 seconds after I say ok, then disappears
.\users\jay\appdata\local\temp\ultravnc.ini
From now on, it appears to have saves the settings. Are these settings now saved in the registry? (I looked undre HKEY_Local_machine -> Software) and did not see VNC.
I presume the ultravnc.ini under program files is for when it is run as an app.
Thank you very much for the reply. I will continue to run in server mode.
One thing I did notice was that I need to say "OK" to changes vs. Apply and OK, in order to get them to save properly.
Thanks again.
Jay
