Can VNC Do This?

Post by nobody481 »

I want to use VNC for some remote administration at work. But I don't want to connect to the desktop. I want to just open the GUI for a specific application from a remote computer on my computer. For example, suppose I have a computer named remote1. I want to open the Add/Remove Programs GUI from remote1 on my desktop. That way I can see what programs remote1 has installed. I don't want to connect to the desktop. If I could only open the GUI to a program, it wouldn't bother the user and they could keep working.

Can VNC do this? If not, does anyone know of something that will?

Thanks!

You can't do this with Ultra but I think you should be able to find other apps that can handle that. Sorry I don't know the name of any off the top of my head.

Citrix's MetaFrame can do the exact thing you want, but it costs you enormous amount of money.
if remote1 had WindowsXP SP2 installed, there's a way with Remote Desktop Connection.

depending on your budget google
remote audit computer

there are a lot of options with pro's and cons where it will tell you what is installed and even give you the ability to uninstall them if you like.. but you should ultimately do that with GPO's and disallow regular users from installing software if thats the case.
