multiple monitors

Post by krivel »

Why can't UltraVNC recognize a second monitor? I used to use TightVNC which worked great on WinXP and recognized both monitors. But since I upgraded to Win7, TightVNC no longer runs as a service but UltraVNC does. But...UltraVNC doesn't let me see a dual display. Any way around this?

Actually, there is a setting to allow the second monitor to be viewed.
Browse to the UltraVNC folder on the start menu and select the "Edit Settings" app.

Select the Screen Capture Tab
Check the "Show Secundary Display" (Yes it is spelled wrong. Perhaps they will fix that) :-D box.

If you have multiple clients you are setting up then you can just save the C:\Program Files\UltraVNC\ultravnc.ini file and upload it to their systems to mirror the settings.

This ini has all the settings for the server and is nice for establishing and distributing the defaults.
The setting you want is in the file as this:
primary=1
secundary=1

Once that is set there is a menu item on the top to toggle between the first and second screen. Previous versions just scrolled all the way across, but I am not sure which one I prefer. Hope this helps.

Note to Developers:
The spelling on that drives me crazy. Will that be fixed developers?

secundary replaced by secondary ... hopes this make everybody happy.

Only next update, you need to edit the ultravnc.ini
because the old parameter( secundary) is unknown

This is great, thanks for the information. But what if you're not using UltraVNC with the ability to toggle when viewing? I have VNC on my Windows Phone and it only picks up the initial monitor without the second. Is there any way like previous version to serve both monitors side-by-side? I am using Windows 7.

Thanks but when I turn on the secondary option and reconnect..I still can't see the second monitor. Do I need to reboot? I tried restarting the uvnc service too but that didn't work.

Yeah, still doesn't work after updating to 1.0.8.

I'm using RealVNC pocket version on my Touch Pro 2 (Windows Mobile 6.5). I still can only see my primary monitor.

Thanks for the reply, but I actually tried that before posting my other response. Not working. I'll try again, but it hasn't been working.

Again, my pocket VNC viewer does not have a button for switching displays. If there is a way to do it via IP address, I'd be thankful, but the old way that used to work, hasn't (i.e. 355.123.23.54:8877:2 for display #2).
