Blank screen after RDP sessions
Blank screen after RDP sessions
I am running UltraVNC Server 1.0.6.5 on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with the vista x64 mirror drivers installed and working ok.
VNC works just fine until I start a RDP session. Everything works fine in RDP, but once I disconnect my RDP session and try to log on using VNC, I get a blank screen. Below I listed exactly what happens in more detail.
• I log into my computer via VNC, every thing works fine.
• I then log out of VNC and login via RDP. Again, everything works fine.
• I then log out of RDP and try to login via VNC. It gives me the windows login page, everything appears to be working, but once I enter the password the page goes blank and the ONLY way to make the page load is to physically restart my machine.
On a side note, if I disable my mirror drives, VNC works again! But without mirror drivers VNC is far too slow for me.
Any help would be great!!

Re: Blank screen after RDP sessions
Thanks but no luck yet.
I installed 1.0.8.0 but it didn't help my issue.
I then edited ultravnc.ini but all that did was make me login to windows after every vnc session ended.
The crazy thing is, I remember not having this issue when I first installed windows 7. All of the sudden a few days ago it happened for the first time and since then it happens every time.
More help would be very appreciated.

Re: Blank screen after RDP sessions
Hi,
I've also a problem with RDP/VNC;
I'm using v1.0.8.2 at the moment but we cannot work with a VNC-sessions and a RDP-session togheter.
I'm sure that vnc server is runnig as a service on the reacheble pc.
When i connected via VNC, everytings work fine but when i connect with RDP at that moment, the VNC session will close itself. After that, it isn't possible to reconnect with vnc until i log in locally.
Can you help me further and discribe what the exact procedure will be?
Many thanks.

my ultravnc.ini is already set to:
clearconsole=0
kickrdp=0
also, if I disable my mirror drivers everything works fine. this leads me to believe my mirror drivers are the cause everything. I am running vista mirror drivers that came with 1.0.8.1. do you know of alternative mirror drivers i should look at?

Re: Blank screen after RDP sessions
I have Windows 7 64bit for both client and server. Can use RDP without ANY issue whatsoever. Now my problem is I can only see a screen if and only if RDP is connected!?? Otherwise I have a lovely black screen and nothing works (or it stops at the last screen refresh where RDP disconnected). But if I connect again with RDP, VNC starts to display the remote screen.
I have tried everything mentioned above and nothing works. Also, I am not using the service (that's giving me a whole other set of headaches)
My question is, does this application work with Windows 7 64bits or is this support still in very early stages?? We no longer have any 32 bit clients on our network and we're alll running Windows 7.

Re: Blank screen after RDP sessions
No idea about your issue with RDP and VNC only displaying when RDP is connected, but I can answer your other question.
Yes, UltraVNC is compatible with 64-bit Win7, I've been running it as such for a year or so now. There is a specific version of UltraVNC for 64-bit OSes, you can find that here: http://sc.uvnc.com/download/click.php?id=55
Good luck!

Re: Blank screen after RDP sessions
I have downloaded the 64 bit version. But here is a quick test I did. Went to fresh install of Windows XP 32 bit, installed Ultra VNC and it works without me doing much. Went o to another fresh install of Windows 7 64 bit (we just bought 50 machines) and it's a whole different story. First forget running it as a service no matter what account you use (system, admin etc.) and second just running it as an app, causes the problems above.
I've been around the software world long enough to know that this product is not ready for Windows 7 64bit. These are Dell Optiplex 960s with plain vanilla hardware. The install on Windows 7 64 should be just as smooth as XP. Either Win 7 64 is broken or UVNC is broken but I'm not sticking around to find out. I give up. RDP works, WebEx works, GoToMeeting works, SharedView works, Sonexis conference manager works etc... But not Ultra VNC.
I've uninstalled and moved on.

Re: Blank screen after RDP sessions
I'm guessing it's something maybe with Ultra VNC and the specific hardware on your Dells under Win7 because I have it up and running on my custom desktop with Win7 64-bit with absolutely no problems, including running it as a system service and as easily as I set it up on my netbook running WinXP Home 32-bit.
I know there are many others running it on Win7 64-bit as well, two of my friends are as an example. Sorry we couldn't solve your problem or be of more help.

Re: Blank screen after RDP sessions
At home I have an ASUS motherboard with Xeons and a completely different graphics card (Nvidia). Same problem. My laptop has an ATI Radeon mobility card and same problem (all are Windows 7 64 bit).

Re: Blank screen after RDP sessions
Odd, I'm not sure then. When I got it, I just dloaded the 64-bit setup file, installed it, configured it, set it to run as a system service, and poof, that's all I needed to do. I connect to it over Hamachi with everything from WinXP 32-viewers to other Win7 machines and have never had any problems.
I have an Asus motherboard on my desktop as well, my Win7 Pro 64-bit machine is a Core2 Duo @ 2.4ghz, with a Radeon HD3850 1GB and 2GB RAM.
Perhaps I have different system settings than you, for example, I have UAC set to the lowest settings as it drives me up the wall.

Re: Blank screen after RDP sessions
I found the what is going on form another board
http://superuser.com/questions/80334/re ... e-computer
what happens is that when rdp disconects it dosn't return the session to the console. Some hear have been pointing that way.
RDP can be closed in a way to return it to the console. Then vnc wil work right when you conect.
Close the RDP session with
"tscon 0 /dest:console"
The rdp is returned active to the console and vnc connections will work.
