I have UltraVNC server and viewer on my server. I am trying to setup UVNC SC from my website. I have created the exe file and copied it over to my laptop. When I run the exe file from the laptop it gives me the option to “Accept†the connection on the server so I click “Accept†and then nothing happens. Is it supposed to fire up the viewer or what exactly is it supposed to do? Also when I try to restart the exe it tells me that it is already active and that my desktop is visible remotely. I see no way to stop it and since nothing further happens at the server machine there is no way that I see to end the session from there either.
The laptop is running Vista. Is there a problem with Vista? Also this is all running from the same network. The server / web server and the laptop are all on the same I.P. The router does port forwarding for all connections coming in on a given port. So for example when a web request is made for babblepfish.com the router forwards the request to the web server. Presumably when the laptop makes a request for my public IP it is forwarded to my server. And clearly this is functioning because I get the invitation to “Accept†the connection on the server when I click the exe file on the laptop.
What am I missing here? Is there some more documentation somewhere that I’m not finding?

Something seems to be missing
Re: Something seems to be missing
for Sc working on vista and vncviewer working on vista
you need to update your SC for compatibility with vista/7
[topic=15865][/topic]
vncviewer 1.0.5.6 or 1.0.6.4 would be better

Re: Something seems to be missing
OK I have the latest versions 1.0.6.5 on both machines. The laptop is a Vista machine and the desktop is a 2003 Server machine. Both have the full version 1.0.6.5 installed.
I am using the laptop to test the SC component. I have created the component and placed the exe on the laptop. When I run the exe from the laptop it talks to the desktop (2003 Server) because I get the invitation to “Accept†the connection on the desktop machine. When I click the “Accept†button that’s all that happens. The invitation goes away and that’s it. Nothing else. I am not using the encryption (rc4.key) as of yet because I figured the first thing I need to do is just get it working.
I have the helpdesk.txt file setup to use the LAN IP since both machine are sitting here together and talking through a switch. I have started the Viewer in listening mode and it is open in the system tray on the desktop machine. So when I run the exe file from the laptop machine shouldn’t it start up the viewer on my desktop machine?
Another question I have is about the exe file. Don’t most browsers refuse to download exe files? The reason I ask is because in several places here I have seen references to being able to download this exe file. I know I can’t download it from my server. I get a page error. I’m running IIS 6. Is there something special I need to know about in order to make this work?

Re: Something seems to be missing
i was never speak about installing the fulle ultravnc server and viewer
i was speaking only about vncviewer 1.0.5.6 or 1.0.6.4 (not full ultravnc)
no,
is not browser don't allow download file but the security policy applied to web browser for security purpose by IT staff on request of managers of the office.
as well, some firewall don't allow any third software to run except web browsing on safety list of web sites.

don't run ultravnc server and SC at same time.
if you need only SC, you can fully uninstall ultravnc server if you don't need.
vncviewer -listen on local computer (helper) must always ready before SC start on remote computer. (helped)

Re: Something seems to be missing
OK I finally figured out what was happening. I was trying to use the port that the regular VNC runs on. I figured I would test it running the other way back to the Vista machine (laptop) instead of to the desktop machine. When I was setting it up I had to change the router settings at which point I went ahead and made a new rule using the 5500 port and pointing to the laptop. Worked like a charm. So I edited the original rule for the server (desktop machine) and sure enough it worked great. Not sure what the conflict since I had the service turned off VNC shouldn’t have had control of the port. But oh well, it worked so who cares.
Thank you very much for your help.
My next question is why is it so slow especially over a gigabit connection. The whole circuit is gigabit. The switch is gigabit, the laptop is gigabit, and the server is gigabit. I click to open a file and it opens immediately on the remote machine but from the viewing machine it takes like 30 seconds or even more to see a response. This would make it real difficult to be of any help to anyone.
BTW thanks again for your help with this.
