Hi,

many thanks for the update.
I haven't tested it with Aero yet but it seems to work fine with Windows Vista/7 but there is one huge problem.
The winvnc.exe should try to get Admin rights, at least if it is possible otherwise the viewer has no influence on windows opened through UAC.
So atm I can only change settings in normal user mode but no system settings even if the user has confirmed uac.
Is it possible to add these option to the exe?
Running the whole scvnce.exe with admin rights makes problems because the removal doesn't seem to work fine so it would be great if the winvnc.exe would ask for it.
If this works I would be finally able to use encryption again with Windows Vista/7 clients.

Greetings

UAC block input from all non elevated apps.
if window A is elevated, you can't send input to this window from other non elevated apps.
No work around, if it was possible there would be no secure reason to have uac on.

The only "semi solution" is to add code that disable UAC popup for
admins. This way the user need to confirm one time ( disable uac popup for admin) uac, but after you can control the system windows.

Code was already added, only need to find time to do some tests.

thanks for all the hard work! =) Now if we can only get this in a GUI'ed version I'd be happy!

Is there anything else I can help with on this? Testing wise / etc.

No, there is a workaround. Winvnc.exe should ask for admin rights after start, like most other modded Single Click VNC versions on this site do on vista.
If I run winvnc.exe manually with admin rights everything works fine.
Afaik there is a file option, internally, through which Windows Vista/7 would automatically ask for admin rights after start, like in case of installers.

Disabling UAC is very bad because there is a user folder to save all the stuff created through programs and normally saved in the program files directory. This is all not accessible and partly gone if UAC is disabled (even it is enabled later on again).

Ok, I have found an easy workaround. I have renamed the winvnc.exe to setup.exe, so that in case of Vista and Windows 7 you are asked for Admin rights without any additional user interaction.
It seems that the winvnc.exe and both dlls aren't removed under Vista after finish from the temp directory but it works fine under Windows 7 and XP.
I mean it is not the only program which leaves some files in the temp directory.

Btw. disabling of Aero works too.

Many thanks, finally, I have a small working SVNC version for all current Windows versions with encryption again.

Thanks this version does seem a little quicker on Vista.

With regard to crashing, I have noticed a couple of reasons, for a definate crash.

1. If the connected to system has two screens and the user moves the mouse to the secondary screen. This might relate to the crashes on VMware as a mouse can leave the screen area.

2. If the connected system has no mouse (touch screen till) the program initiates and then crashes, plugging in a mouse sorts it).

No matter what I do, using this creator I cannot get an exe that works with any repeater - at this point, I'm sure it's user error but I can't figure it out. Any help out there? This is the repeater log:

Repeater for Rel1.0.0 of PcHelpware
socket() initialized
bind() succeded to port 8088
listen() succeded
socket() initialized
bind() succeded to port 8089
listen() succeded
Reading Proxy settings erro

The "Reading Proxy settings erro" always happens when the server connects in, as soon as the sc exe is run. If I run the viewer first, then I see:

accept() connection
Viewer added to list 4321

Here's my helpdesk.txt file, with the repeater IP blanked out:

[TITLE]

[HOST]
test
-plugin -connect xxxx.xxxx.xxxx:8089 -noregistry

[TEXTTOP]

[TEXTMIDDLE]

[TEXTBOTTOM]

[TEXTRBOTTOM]

[TEXTRMIDDLE]

[TEXTRTOP]

[TEXTBUTTON]

[WEBPAGE]

[TEXTCLOSEBUTTON]

[BALLOON1TITLE]

[BALLOON1A]

[BALLOON1B]

[BALLOON1C]

[BALLOON2TITLE]

[BALLOON2A]

[BALLOON2B]

[BALLOON2C]

[WEBPAGE]

This isn't an encryption issue, because as soon as the server connects to the repeater I get the proxy error. What am I missing here?

edit:
I added a video tutorial to the page
http://www.uvnc.com/pchelpware/sc/create.html
It was not made by us, so all credits go to the owner.

Using the repeater you need to use an id.
-server with id x connect to repeater
-viewer with id x connect to repeater
repeater cross both id's

From
http://www.uvnc.com/pchelpware/sc/helpdesk.html
---------
The [HOST]
Line 1: Visible part in selector
Line 2: startup command line
-connect ip:port Viewer ip and port
-noregistry :needed for SC
-plugin : Use encryption, need to be before -connect
-id id : The id used for repeater connection, -connect is in that case the repeater ip port
-----------
This is the same id as you use on the viewer site

Rudi,

Thanks for the response - I changed the Hosts line to this:

-plugin -connect xxxx.xxxx.xxxx:8089 -noregistry -id 4321

I still see the same issue - as soon as I run the server side sc exe, I see this in the log:

Repeater for Rel1.0.0 of PcHelpware
socket() initialized
bind() succeded to port 8088
listen() succeded
socket() initialized
bind() succeded to port 8089
listen() succeded
Reading Proxy settings erro

I've been renaming the zip file I upload to the online creator each time to avoid caching issues.

On a possibly unrelated question, since the 1.0.6.5 release only ships with the MSRC4Plugin.dsm file and I need to use the _NoReg version with sc, can I download the 1.2.2 MSRC4Plugin_NoReg.dsm from the MSRC4 website and use that via the viewer to create my rc4.key and have that work with the plugin version that the creator packages with the server exe?

Thanks,
Daniel

try
-id 4321 -plugin -connect xxxx.xxxx.xxxx:8089 -noregistry

Have you red the post that started this thread ?
[topic=15865][/topic]

If you download 7-zip
http://www.7-zip.org/
you can extract the downloaded sc.exe archieve.
AFter extraction, starting winvnc.exe in that folder is the
same as stratiung the sc.exe. When all tested, just upload
the zip to create the final version..

This is fatser to test, then recreate a sc for each change.

Rudi,

The change in id position seems to do the trick - I no longer get the proxy error at the repeater when the server connects in. However, I am getting a DSM plugin error. With regards to my second question in that other post, if my viewer is using the NoReg version of 1.2.2, what version is the sc.exe using that the online tools creates? Do I have to use the regular MSRC4 plugin on the viewer as well?

Ok, after more testing, this only works when the viewer initiates the connection first. If the server goes first, I get the DSMPlugin error. Is this expected behavior? I don't think it used to work like this, but I could be wrong.

Update 27/08/2009
helpdesk.txt added
[DIS_UAC]

*Adding this option, uac is disabled for admin. If the user who started
sc is admin you know can remote control system apps. ON viewer disconnect, old value's are restored.

*poll settings back as in the old version, seems to give better performance.

**connection in the updated version is identical as in the old.
Viewer need to be online before server can make connection.
Using the repeater it depend on the repeater version. SC didn't changed.

**refresh rate
Nothing changed between the update and the old version.
Only poll options differ, corrected in latest update.

Rudi,

Thanks for this latest update - after some testing, I'd realized that the repeater was what changed the behavior with regards to who had to connect first. I'm using the pchelpware repeater rel 1.00, since the repeater on the UltraVNC download page is a command line version only that I can't get to work. I found a post that I think you had made that provided a patch to a 1.01 version of the repeater that fixed the issue of the viewer having to connect first, but the link was no longer valid.

If anyone out there has a repeater that works for whichever side connects in first, can you tell me what repeater that is and where to find it? The only two I've found have been the pchelpware 1.00 and the repeater that I mentioned above, but seems hardcoded to ports 5500 and 5901.

Daniel

I think you are referring the thread [topic=12021]Compatibility of PcHelpWare Repeater with UltraVNC/SC[/topic]

Yes, there's a patched version of the repeater that solve the mentioned bug, and this patched repeater is workable with UVNC, SC, and PcHelpWare. In that thread, redge suggested to update to 1.0.1 in case of using PcHelpWare (See Note 1). This version no. is referring the PcHelpWare, not relating to the repeater.

So if you are using SC then you doesn't need to bother the PcHelpWare 1.0.1 issue.

The link page, which was on an outdated topic (sub-forum of 1.0.4), somehow was removed when the site admin decided to clear up the forum sometimes ago.

Luckily, the patched repeater is still available. You can download it at:
http://sc.uvnc.com/Update_10July.zip

This patched repeater is now named as distributer.exe

Hope this information can help.

(Note 1)
What means of the PcHelpWare 1.0.1 patch is:
1SCVDLL.dll and 1SCDLL.dll patch for PCHelpware Release 1.0 - Zip archive
which is also available at the PcHelpWare 1.0 download page.

Unfortunately, this term "1.0.1 patch" has been mentioned in several places in the forum, yet doesn't make a note on the download page.

Thank you very much - that was exactly what I was looking for! I was confused with the pchelpware issue because the info for the repeater is titled "About UltraVnc Repeater" but the actual content says "PcHelpware Repeater Rel 1.00".

You get 2 thumbs up from me on this one! =)

Now if we can only get 2 more small additions I'll be happy.

1. Small GUI option? Just have it be so the .exe created is 2 buttons... Run and Exit.

2. Offline compiler would be sweet =)

btw I love doing testing and I'll have some more video's showing the support of Windows 7 and how easy it's going

1)
What's the use of a "run" button.
If users don't need to select a connection, you can use the
[DIRECT] to skip the selection window. If they start the app, they want to run it :)

The exit is in the tray icon, replacing the tray by a standard window
with a buton exit...i don't think that's what most people want.
2)
I know, it would be nice to have a WYSIWYG gui so you can see and
preview the thing you create. Or an online preview of the uploaded zip
before the actual creation happen. Would save us a lot of CPU.

Don't have time for it now.

That's cool =)

I ran into this earlier as well

Been testing the new version in Vista / 7 and everything is looking great so far, but I ran into this error message after closing the application on the server side (not client).

Ideas?

**edit**

Ok so I did some captures to show you what I'm talking about when it comes to the client closing and error messages after wards.

Forum doesn't allow me to upload content and I really REALLY don't feel like making you download a 78MB .avi file so I compressed it down into Flash.

Download the file and run the .html file.

**edit X3**

I'm also happy to assist with proper documentation and file creation on this tool. I think it's a very good asset to have in anyone's tech arsenal.

This comes from the 7zip sfx file used to extract the file.
Checked latest 7zip and it still happen.

Seems to happen only on a 64bit win7.
The sfx is 32bit ....
Using the 64bit sfx, you don't have it, but then you need 2 versions.

Actually this happened on 32bit windows 7 not 64bit.

Is there anything else I can do to help with this? Perhaps give an option when the file is uploaded online for it to be used with 32bt vs. 64bit?

Online creator now includes the 'vnchooks.dll' automatically ... various security software, for example, McAfee Enterprise Anti-Virus Scanner, gives out scary message that its infected with virus, and auto deletes it. Similarly various firewall also gives out extra warning for this 'vnchooks.dll' !

what can be done so that such scary warning doesnt appear ?

who/which coompany/group made this dll ? can it be digitally "signed", so that its authenticity is known ?

if any reputed website/source is describing this file is not a virus but various security software gives false positive warning, can some1 please post some such reference website, so that users can visit that & assure themselves that its not a virus ?

i havent tested SC which includes the 'SChook.dll' also, does that creates such warnings as well ?

thanks,
Emdy.

ok, i will sign the dll and let you known when done.

When signing is added you can test it with your scanner.

Thx for the new SC, this helps a lot! :) Long awaiting.

Disabling Aero works without problems and this version seems to be stable.

One thing: All SC variants have the same version number. This is not realy helpfully. Can you do us a favor and increase the version number please?

Another Suggestion: One feature i missed strongly: on a file transfer there should be a requester/splash screen on server side to indicate that a filetransfer is in progress. And then the exact information which files (with path) is transfered would help a lot. I have some users/costumers they said: "what the hell are you doing?". So a requester can help to make a remote session transparently as possible.

I hope you understand, my english isn't the best. :wink:

Really glad to see some activity on this product.

One testing note:
XP server using AVG Firewall.
For testing the client address is the public IP of the firewall the serve is behind
As expected upon selecting a connection AVG prompts to Allow or Deny the connection
Two scenarios:
1) Tell AVG to remember choice and then allow
2) Just tell AVG to allow

With scenario 1 everything is OK, with 2 the pop-ups about trying for five minutes displays but when it closes so does the server.

Also, noticed in the About that the version hasn't changed but the build date has.

So -autoreconnect will not work now?

This is a show stopper for me. It's relatively common for me to get disconnects. Either because the PC I am controlling is too busy or the internet momentarily loses internet or I accidentally close the window.

Having the person on the other end constantly reconnecting me every time I get a disconnect is not an option. The type of remote stuff I do often involves the person connecting me and them going off somewhere to do something else.
