We currently have several site using GoToMyPc. We are looking at Lognein as an alternative, Less expensive.
In the other 150 or so partner sites we manage we have PCanywhere and TS as we manage the firewalls. But many have low end firewalls and that means that those ports are open, pubklically open. That is bad obviously.
I want to use VNC just like I use GoToMyPC. I have plenty of Public Servers that can be the "HELPER" sites. I guess a primary and secondary using the same FQDN.
What I need/want is a VNC server that can be installed with a config file I create and will autostart with sindows and always be running and connected to the Helper server.
I then need clients that my techs can use to connect to those servers. We manage all our firewalls so we should not have any issues with mapping ports.
Most often times there is no one onsite once the product is installed. So it needs to be stable.
GoToMyPC is solid as a rock. It is probably based on VNC, No? Logmein is based on something else I believe.
Thasnks much
Doug

Replacing GoToMyPC with ULTRA VNC
DChon:
Heya. First off...no, neither GoToMyPC or LogMeIn are at all based on VNC. They are "Windows-only", and are (guessing) most likely based on the RDP (ie, "remote desktop") protocol. I've used LogMeIn as a backup to VNC, and it's surprisingly well-done and well-priced (eg, remote-desktop is completely free; you only need to pay for the "pro" version that has file-transfer, remote-printing and other goodies). If you are *only* interested in Windows-to-Windws remote-desktoping, LogMeIn is (sorry) hard to beat.
As for a VNC equivalent to these services, where you can open a web-page and take remote-control of a PC regardless of its firewalling...there's nothing that's as complete a solution in the VNC world. Ultra-VNC SC is pretty close, as is EchoVNC, though neither are web-browser solutions. But we're trying.
Hope that helps!
cheers,
Scott

Re: Replacing GoToMyPC with ULTRA VNC
I recently quit using GoToMyPC and now use UltraVnc exclusively. Printing is the only issue that really has to be addressed and I handled that thru a VPN where the server is "sharing" the local printer at the client site via ip address.
Works great except for a weird delay sometimes in print job startup. Randomly, the print job doesn't start for up to a minute. That is not UVNC though but the VPN connection.
I love it. Especially now that I can run everything over my iPhone.

Re: Replacing GoToMyPC with ULTRA VNC
I use remotepc (www.remotepc.com) and it works quite well for my purpose apart from being cost effective when compared. Also , being web based I can access my system from anywhere just needing a browser.
