Two servers on one network
Two servers on one network
Running windows xp SP2 on bot machines. UVNC 19 on both as well. I have all port fwding fixed correctly on both xp firewalls and port fwding for both ports on in the router.
Tonight I had both servers running on both machines. I finally got logged in and when I did it defaulted to this machine. That being the case i turned this machines server off and tried again. Now when trying to log in i get a cannot connect. Any ideas or reason for this. Im sure I could switch the other server to use say 5801 and thus fix the problem no?
Any information will be greatly appretiated.
Thank you.
Update.
I have set one pc as 5801 and the other as 5800. When connecting to 5801 i get multiple screens. Obviously because this is the same pc im on. When trying to connect to 5800 i get a connection refused.
Any ideas?

open server port 5900, set a proper password and make sure your server is reachable.
don't know you can reach it or not? try pinging on it or even running some other service like HTTP and access it if needed.
if your server address is unreachable, then VNC isn't really the problem so go back and overhaul your own network settings.
when any other services on TCP/IP works and VNC still doesn't, oh gosh you will be blaming at VNC then.
vnc's not working for you now, that's sad
so lets see WHAT is causing it.
Question 1: run HTTP, FTP or stuff like that and connect to it.
A) yay i can connect! -> something's wrong with VNC or your firewall's blocking 5900/tcp
B) ugh i can't! ->Question 2
Question 2: ping your server.
A) aha it echoes back! -> your firewall or router on the way is the problem.
B) nope it timeouts! -> your network's somewhat not functioning.
good luck

Cant be my network though because i can get to the one pc that i have set up on port 5801. I cant get to the one set up on 5800. Correct me if im wrong but port 5900 is for the viewer and 5800 is for the http. Never the less i have port fwding on for the range 5800 - 5900 so that isnt a problem. I also have sp2 firewall open for these ports as well.
ok this is what that many people mistake
no matter you're using regular viewer or the 5800/http web viewer, you need to be accessible to the 5900/tcp anyway, since the java viewer shown on your browser, just as regular viewer does, connects to 5900 that is only where the server is running.
TCP ports required to be open:
normal VNC Viewer connection -> 5900
Web Viewer connection-> 5800 AND 5900
but weird... even tho you got 5900 open it's not workin
how about looking at the "display number"
try to manually edit either the listening port or display# suite to your desire
display# 1 means port# 5901.
good luck
==ADDED===============================
maybe this awesome program helps you figure out which port# yar VNC server are listening at
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/tcpview.shtml
it shows something just like you can receive hitting "netstat -a" on the command prompt
good luck!

Ok a bit of an update. I went over and instlled tight on both machines. I am getting the same exact thing.
The laptop is using ports 5801 and 5901.
The PC is using ports 5800 and 5900.
I can connect to the laptop from the pc via HTTP. I cannot connect to the pc from the laptop via HTTP. I have looked for everything i can and am not able to figure out why.
I can connect both ways through my LAN ip using the viewer.
I cannot connect to the PC using the viewer and the Wan ip adress.
So , its got to be something on my pc, question is what.
I have port fwding tunrned on in the router for port range 5800-5901.
I have sp2 firewall on pc opened up for port 5800 and 5900.

By run HTTP im assuming you mean can i pull a web page on the pc. If this is what you mean then yes I can pull a web page.

you still don't get it.
make it 5800,5900 to the desktop and 5801,5901 to the laptop
this shortly means you got problem in your router's port forwarding settings.cnmsales wrote:I can connect both ways through my LAN ip using the viewer.

Well thanks for your time i finally got it figured out. For some reason having both ips set to foward the same range of port 5800 to 5900 was causing a conflict. I set one ip to foward 5800 to 5801 amd the other to 5900 to 5901. Set this in both Vns's and walla. Thanks for your time. Figured id post this here for future reference.
