using rc-18 and xp sp2

Post by clambeth »

I ran into a situation the other day where i was trying to access an xp pc that was in the logged off position. it would not connect. i had all the ports enable in the sp2 firewall and even had exceptions for vnc listed. as soon as i logged on, could connect fine, even if the pc was locked down, just couldnt while logged off. is there anything in xp sp2 that i should know about and how can i get it to work. we use this product heavily in our office and need to find out what i can do. this is on xp pro sp2. thanks for all help.

the first question is - did you disable the firewall, logg off and still have the same problem?

Quite possibly something could have happened during the "MS Upgrade" that could of hosed the service.

I would try the first item I suggest and if it still doesnt work.. but did work prior to the XP SP2 upgrade.. Look at reinstalling the server / service.. and try again. First with it off, then with the XP SP2 Firewall on.

yes i did disable the firewall and tried it, opened the ports, made exceptions, etc.... for whatever reason, it seems to be something in sp2 that will not let this happen. i may be mistaken, im just trying to find out if there is a way around it.

You also - reinsalled the UltraVNC program after SP2 correct?

The only other thing to test would be roll back the SP2 Driver on a machine that you can test with and see if the symptoms continue. Most likely not.. but I know a lot of people with SP2 have been sticking with RC18 as more of a feature set rather than necessity... So of course the other option is to test RC_19_4 or wait for RC_19_5.. ?
