UltraVnc as multi monitor extension

Post by Fabry »

I ask if is it possible to extend UltraVnc Hook driver and UVNC server for using UltraVnc client as second, third ,and so on, monitors ?

Today's svga card does it easy, and even if you add an old pci vga you can do it with windows.
All recent notebook support dual monitor configuration (internal lcd + external crt/lcd). But in all cases you need more monitors.

I have some old notebooks, which are obsolete as cpu power for today's software, but they have good lcd screens.
So i had the idea that it is nice if i can recycle them as monitors for other pc.

My idea is to connect them (throught ethernet) to a modern pc/notebook (UVnc server on it) and open UVnc client on them.
A modified UVnc server sends to the clients not the main screen but the extended screens (second screen, third screen, ...).

I have seen that Hook Driver appears on Windows as second VGA, so i have assumed that a possibility can exist.

Thanks it seems perfect for my needs.

I hope that in future even UVNC (which is free and not commercial) can do the same thing.

UltraVnc as multi monitor extension

Post by chauchnet »

I totally agree with a multi monitor extension. I have 2 monitors connected to my desktop PC at work. Unfortunately I can only view the primary monitor and the second monitor cannot be displayed using Ultra VNC. Currently PC Anywhere 11 can support dual monitors. Would it be possible to program Ultra VNC to support dual monitors in a single PC environment?

Thanks.

I think that PC Anywhere supports having PC configurations with 2 monitors attached. So that when a window is on the second monitor, the remote user can still reach it.

This is also supported by UltraVNC.
When using the video-driver you can just move to the second screen. And when you don't use the video-driver, you need to change screens by pressing a button.

agreed on being able to see either monitor on a two monitor system.

Since I dont have 3 monitors or more... connected to the same system (which by ethernet intrigues me...?) so I have no Idea if the switching function from screen one, two, three.. .works.?

Rc_19_4 should support dual monitors by going full screen..

I dont usually connect to myself so I am not sure..

thats why I was wondering if it could be done. Just sounded interesting.

Mirage driver open source GPL

Not tested, because I won't have graphic card and place for dual screen.
