Unable to see / control Vista PC from an XP machine

Post by spaberlejr »

I have the viewer up on my XP machine and I can see the Vista machine desktop where the VNC server is runnng, but when I try and open something on the Vista machine from the XP machine I see no results, but when I look at the Vista machine it has actually opened the folder or program I asked for from the XP machine.

Can someone help me ?

I am too having this problem and have been using ultravnc for a long time and never had this issue from winxp to winxp machines, even connecting to a p4 1.0ghz with 512 ram all the way across the country.

i hope this is something simple as i go to the other room and i would then have like 4 windows open but they do not up on the screen.

I "fixed" the problem. You need to disable Aero on the Vista machine and in my case I had deskscapes Dream running -- had to stop that too. Now a slight delay but it works as designed.

Did you disable Aero on the Vista machine ? If so, what do you have chosen under "Quick Options" on the connect screen -- Auto, Ultra, ... ?

I have read where Auto does not work so good -- maybe try Ultra although I do not know what your infrastructure ( router / pc's ) look like...
