I don't know if you have a DSM plugin running on the server computer, but i can across this once using the web server access. Since the Java web module can't use plugins, you can access a computer that has the plugins selected from a browser. You should still be able to access it from the VNC Viewer if you have the plugin such as MSRC4Plugin.dsm selected. Just make sure you have the RC4 key for both computers. If thats not it, I'm guessing it's still a similar settings problem that is not the same on both computers. hope that helped.

Has this been addressed? It doesn't seem to because I am using 19.4 and still get this error. I want encrypted traffic both ways. . .so if I disable the plugin. . .it isn't encrypted anymore. Also, I thought I heard rumors of a secure webserver for the java eventually? Is it possible to run the JAVA as standalone full-screen? I am trying to connect from a Linux box.

The web viewer doesn't support the DSM. It is on the list of things for them to do but not a high priority one.

the only way to use the DSM is to have the viewer on the other side using the same key as the server.

You can look into something called - oneclick - which is something that is a packaged app that includes the security plugin that you can give out to users ect, they click on a name and connects to an ip... sorta experimental right now.. and I am not sure of the website exactly..

Search the forum for oneclick..If that sounds interesting.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I have been following the single click stuff. I mostly use VNC to control all the workstations and servers I need access to. I don't do much support this way at the moment. . .though I have been waiting for a final release to start using it more for that. I just want to be using secured communications. I don't need it to be the current plugin, but I don't want admin passwords going over an unsecured connection and I can't use both ways on the same machine the way it is now. If the web connection was in a SSL tunnel. . .I would be fine with it. . .but without some other form of communication on the other method. . .I am stuck with using only one method of connection.

For the regular VNC viewer - you can use the DSM and encrypt both ways just fine... of course since it isnt supported in the web viewer (java viewer) it wont work.

Since you are using this more for a "Server Environment" you should be able to use the viewer at your local machine to connect to all servers - In this scenario - you can use the DSM and the security plugin. Im using it today in RC_19_4.

If you are getting this error in a Viewer (app) to Server (app) environment - I would re-generate your key. Copy it to the server under the UltraVNC program folder dir (respectively) and enable it on the "Server." Then on the Viewer you also specify using the DSM configure it to use the key that you made and is now on the server and it should work..

The single click stuff can also use the security module (DSM) plugin but its more for like a help desk (cpu support) environment where you cant exactly take their word for it. (users)

It took me a while to read the bottom of the "How to use encryption" page and notice I have to specify the security module on the "Listen" viewer shortcut - on the computer the server connects to - in order to use the security plugin properly. Otherwise you just package the encryption key when you submit the zip file and it uses that for the client automatically.

Yes that works properly. It is what I have been doing since the plugin was released. The problem is this last week I had to do some management from a Knoppix CD on a different computer. . .and the only way to access ultra-specific-vnc installations from linux is via the java interface. . .but I can't access my servers that way because they all have the plugin enabled. So, I guess the possible is that I have prevented any linux users from being able to remote control my machines. . .lol
