I have the same problem as
[post=55667][/post]
I have VNC lite installed on the iPhone and UltraVNC on the PC.
At home it works great, cause I have wifi, but as soon as I leave home and it switches to 3g or Edge I can´t connect any longer.
Instead of the "VNC Negotiation" that it shows with wifi it shows "connecting (ip-adress)" when it´s on 3g, and then it just times out.
I know that it was an answer to this problem but it was all greek to me so I would appreciate if someone could explain it in plain english (even if I´m swede).
[moved from vnc related product to general help, unrelated to iphone[/mod]

Re: iPhone 3g och wifi problem
Is the firewall set to forward TCP port 5900 to a public IP address? Also, it may be possible that you're still trying to connect to an "internal" IP address instead of the external one.
I use MochaVNC on my iPhone and love it!

The ip I connect to on my iPhone is the one that you can see if you hold the mouse over the UltraVNC icon.
Should it be different ip adresses for wifi and 3g?
I too use the Mocha VNC lite

Re: iPhone 3g och wifi problem
It could be your internal/lan IP. If it's 192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x or in 172.16.x.x - 172.31.x.x you cannot use it from outside. readkrilleric64 wrote:The ip I connect to on my iPhone is the one that you can see if you hold the mouse over the UltraVNC icon.

Yes, it´s 192.168.x.x
So what can I do to make it work outside my home?

Hop on the computer in question and browse to http://whatismyip.com and make note of the IP address. That is the computers public IP address.
Now, visit http://tinyurl.com/ab552 to discover how to forward ports for the router that is at that site. Use those instructions to publish port 5900 on the external IP address to port 5900 on the internal 192.168.x.x address.

Re: iPhone 3g och wifi problem
Hey sbostedor, so I attempted to do what you stated above. I used port foward to foward ports 5900 and 5800 to my private ip. And when I roll over the blue uvnc tray it still says 192.168.0.xxx, is that correct?
I'm using a Tmobile G1 with an android-vnc-viewer. And im connecting to my private ip, not 192.168.0.xxx and it won't connect, am I doing something wrong?
thanks.

Re: iPhone 3g och wifi problem
you need:
1. do port forwarding for UltraVNC server (port 5900 if you are using default), read this post:
[topic=3859][/topic]
don't forget test:
https://www.grc.com/x/portprobe=5900
2. if you don't want to remember your external IP, register an account at
http://dyndns.org
and get a free dynamic domain name and use it to access your home computer.
