I have been an avid fan of PcHelpWare for almost 2 years now. My needs have changed. I am starting to have to support clients through a reboot and most of the times, no one is on their end to click the "Connect" button on Pc Help Ware - Thats why now, I have chosen to go with UVNC.
however, I am having a terrible time setting it up and really understanding the concept of how this will work in my situation.
Question #1: - Lets say Joe calls me, I have never talked to joe before but I need to connect to his PC. What do I tell Joe? Do I have him go to UVNC website and download the uvnc latest release and install and configure the server on his side? Or once I have tweaked the viewer on my side, is there special files i need to zip and email him? Whats the best process for this? I normally work with clients that dont know the difference in a USB cable and a Hard Drive, seriously.
Question #2 - What if the clients i am connecting to are running Vista? Is there something I should have them do beforehand, like disable Aero? Are there known issues there with Vista?
Question #3 - Is there a "dummies" version of the support documents on exactly how to set up the viewer, router specs, etc... because I have read the forums and the docs I could find for about 4 days now and I dont think my eyes or brain can handle any more, its just all a blur to me.
I apologize in advance if my questions seem trivial, I just am wanting to know if this wonderful program will do and work the way I want. I.e. - Load on startup and be ready to go when I need to access a clients computer and also be something very simple for a beginner end user to install on their PC for the first time, via instructions over the phone or email, as well as something that will withstand through a reboot with little to no end user contact.
I dont think i mentioned this, but I am assisting clients over the internet, not in a LAN.

Re: New user - Please help
I am somewhat in the same boat as you.
Q&A 1. If attended (Joe) support, Server does not seem to be the answer and not worth the hassle, especially if you're not going to talk to Joe regularly or ever again.
[topic=14888]Check out the link Redge gave me[/topic] when asking for the most stable and best solution for Vista to date. There is pretty good documentation within the Zip. Problem is that developer does not share his code and has been posting about once every couple months, with actual updates few and far between.
I am also looking into solutions provided by [topic=11485]Caramel[/topic]or JDaus ([topic=12784]VNC2Me[/topic]). JDaus' is open source and he seems pretty committed and active. He is currently working on disabling Vista Aero in his version.
Q&A 2. There are wrap around projects for UVnc SC that do those things automatically and re-enable them when disconnecting from SC. Issues with Vista, getting the response time good. Seems the past 5 months some great minds have achieved that with Vista.
Q&A 3. [topic=8426]BevTech's step by step pdf / docs of how to[/topic] (sticky in this forum category actually).
