It's not dead but sometimes I wish it were... :) I got a little side-tracked trying to fix the black screen problem when it's running on some AMD systems and trying to improve the UAC popup disconnects when running on Vista in a restricted user account.

It takes a while to re-write the code in assembler... especially when I have to keep up with the updates and bug fixes at the same time. I'm not part of the UVNC dev team so they don't wait for me.

I've got the winvnc.exe executable down to 248k but it still needs to be smaller and still needs to be optimized some more.

The latest AVNC/OneClick beta is great! Two questions:

1. Is there (or will there be) an option to start it in service mode automatically?
2. Will there be a "Stop" icon on the client's desktop in the final version? My clients use that as a way to tell if I'm still connected or not.

Thanks!

Is StartupMode currently functioning? I could make it work (at least on a Windows Home Server (Server 2003) client.

Thanks! I just updated the beta zip. It now supports password protection and daily pin option, welcome (disclaimer) message, goodbye message, feedback URL and I put the Stop icon back on the desktop. So basically it's done, it looks like I'll be able to make the GUI creator in the next week or so.

Be sure to read the ini help and update your ini files.

This is not an add-on to UVNC SC or winvnc, it's a 420k stand-alone user customizable program that runs on Vista in service mode and safe mode before the logon prompt. It also supports same-port mode, repeater mode and relay mode connections, subfolder file transfers, users can select a technician from a name list or type the address and port manually. It has RemoteStart and delayStart options built-in for unattended support behind nat routers and firewalls.

Screen shot...

Can we have a way to tell Creator.exe which configuration file to use when building the customer module? I have one config for WAN clients and one for LAN connections. I have two listeners running on my end where the WAN connections run at 256 colors while LAN runs at Full Color. I want to build two separate modules that are prompt-free for the client. I have it working, but I have to change the RZ.txt file each time. I'd like to have like WAN.txt and LAN.txt and have Creator.exe ask me which file to use.

compupane wrote:Can we have a way to tell Creator.exe which configuration file to use when building the customer module?
Usage: Creator.exe [ /? | /filename ]
Examples:
Creator.exe
Creator.exe /Phil
Creator.exe /Phil.txt
Creator.exe /configs\Phil.txt
Creator.exe /C:\Advantig\configs\Phil.txt

You can include the full path and file name. Wildcards (*) cannot be used.
The default is to compile the customer module using the existing RZ.txt
configuration file in the current folder if no filename is specified.

I'm having a serious issue with the 2.0 beta...hopefully you can help. Sometimes my viewer (1.0.5.4) will crash and any clients I was connected to will not reconnect after reopening the listener. Even uninstalling the AVNC on the client and running it again doesn't always help. Any ideas?

OK, new problem that I'm stumped on. I ran the same customer module of today's 2.0.0.0 beta on two computers on my LAN (one XP & one Home Server 2003). The XP runs one of the RZ.exe instances using 70%-95% CPU usage while the other runs normally at around 1%-2%. I don't think it is the OS because I've used other XP machines fine over the weekend. Any ideas?

OK, v2.0 beta is promising, but I am encountering a few problems (tested using a build downloaded today):

1. The /filename command line parameter to "Create_Customer_Module.exe" is being ignored. Irrespective of what I specify, it always uses the co-located RZ.txt.

2. Unlike with version 1.x, a listening viewer no longer prompts the technician to accept an incoming call. Instead, it just launches the viewer without asking.

3. When used on Vista (Ultimate 32-bit) in service mode - I am not testing other modes yet - all the commands on the tray icon's "System Toolbox" and "My Toolbox" menus are greyed out and disabled.

4. When choosing the "Uninstall (stop service)" menu item, the "Stop" icon is not removed from the client desktop.

Really like the new 2.0. Working well with multi-user Vista for the most part.

One snag I keep bumping up against is that if my viewer in not ready or goes down when a client tries to connect, they receive the connect screen and it won't connect until they activate it.

Am I missing something in the config file to eliminate the display of the connect screen or at least have it try to auto connect every couple of minutes if the connection or my viewer is lost?

Is there a way to set it to "unlimited"?

No, it was decided not to allow an unlimited retry. We thought that if the tech's IP address was entered wrong (or changed since the customer module was built) that after possibly years (depending on the timeout setting) of trying to connect to a bad address it would be time to stop and ask for a new address and to give the user the option to uninstall it if the tray icon is set to hidden.
OK, but is there a maximum? Sometimes I'm out and people want to run the module so I have access when I get back (sometimes 8 or more hours later).

Instead of having it try for a long time why not use the RemoteStart feature?? You can setup the module to start and reach you when a flag file exist on your domain.

Never have gotten RemoteStart to work quite right.
