Dual Monitor Support

Post by jkretsch »

Microsoft recently came out with a new version of RDC (Remote Desktop Client) that supports dual monitors. It has a "/span" option that will automatically span a remote connection's desktop across dual local monitors. In other words, if I have 2 monitors sitting on my desktop and I remote into a machine with only a single (or dual) monitors, the remote desktop will automatically span across both of my local monitors. Very cool! I've played around with UltraVNC 1.0.2 and 1.0.4 and I don't see that this functionality is available. Am I missing something? Is this functionality that will be added anytime soon?

I would also be very interested in finding out. I think a friend of mine had this going on. I can't remember which flavor of VNC he was using, though.
You obviously lack the creative genius to integrate Legos and Duplos.

I got this to work once, and it was indeed cool. But then I started having presumably unrelated connection/stability problems so I upgraded to the newest version 1.04RCx and haven't been able to do it since.

I'd really love to know exactly how to set this up, as I'm sure many other uvnc users would also!

Dual monitor view require the mirror driver, no other special stuff to do.

Select Full desktop ( http://www.uvnc.com/install/usage.html ) is used as switch between the monitors

Ah, I got it. I didn't realize you had to enable it in the Server properties. It's not the "Admin Properties" page, it's just the "Properties" page.

But, "Select Full desktop to switch between the monitors" does not do the same thing as RDC's /span.
Is there any way to have BOTH remote server displays show up at the same time on TWO local viewing displays?
When I try this (with 1.0.5.3 server+mon driver loaded, 1.0.5.4 viewer) with a primary display on left, secondary on right I can drag the right window frame over to the 2nd monitor but the vnc viewer window is blank on the right display except for a tiny vertical strip of pixels on the left side of the viewer window on the right monitor. RDC /span works fine.

Those two values are already both set to "1". When viewing the dual displays on the server with a viewer I can use the slider to view both displays fine. But, when I resize the viewer window over to the 2nd display on the right, nothing displays on the right display except the window frame.

do you have the ultravnc server video hook driver installed ?
this required for multi-monitor at depth colors 16/32 bit
depth colors 15/24 bit not supported and still disabled.

Yes video hook is installed and says Active when connected with a viewer. I tried it at both 16/32 bit depth, same problem.

No I have not tried anything else, yet. I was just wondering if anyone else has gotten this to work properly. Thanks for the speedy replies.
