at first, thanks for the great program and great work.
But I`ve found two little mistakes.
1. You use UltraVNC Viewer 1.0.5.2 - 1.0.5.3 was compiled on 29.12.2008 with 1412 KB and you can download at http://www.vnc-world.com/_download/_buc ... .0.5.3.zip the right version.
2. The "SCBuilder.exe" file was detected as Virus by AVIRA Antivir and could only run if the antivir software was deinstalled.

A quick update, ive uploaded SCBuilder Beta 2 with the new vncviewer.exe. Thanks for letting me know!

For the virus detection, i can't do much about this. I will send the scbuilder.exe to the avira company and let them check the file so they can remove the false detection for their next virus database update.

False positives with AutoIT .exe's are usually from compressing any included sub .exe with UPX. If this is what happened using 7zip to build your self extracting .exe may be better idea.

Good stuff NiTr0! I have been playing around with your old version while waiting for the new version and have found some interesting things that may be useful:
  • I tried long and hard to get AutoIt to do uPNP, it isn't easy! I suspect a problem with variable types. Anyway I discovered a uPNP utility at http://www.UPnPworks.alcidelic.com/ that works really well. Add the port before you start the vncviewer and delete it afterwards. I had to put a "> nul" at the end of the command line to keep it quiet. There are probably better ways.
  • I am running an internet based uvnc repeater in Mode 2 to get around firewall port forwarding/uPNP issues. Your builder appears to only support Mode 1 which requires the repeater to have access to the VNC Servers. To get Mode 2 working I used command lines to launch the viewer and server similar to:

    "vncviewer.exe ID:9999 -proxy my.repeater.com:5900 ..."
    "winvnc.exe ID:9999 -autoreconnect -connect my.repeater.com::5500 -run ..."

I found you had to put the ID section first for it to work.
  • A problem I have found with using a repeater in Mode 2 is that each viewer/server pair that is using the repeater need to use a different ID, so there is a need for the user and technician to be able to select different ID's. I had two ideas to get around this. Unfortunately both the user and technician have to select the same ID, so there is some room for confusion:
    • Use a context menu on the AutoIt tray icon to relaunch the viewer/server with a new ID. This would need to be saved to cope with reboots.
    • Ask user and technician to select an ID on initial launch.
  • I often have multiple vncviewers running as I support some remote servers using VNC. I think this should work in most cases if you simply let the user run multiple instances. The worst I have encountered is you simply have two screens with the same view. However the AutoIT parent needs to capture the child vncviewer's pid so it knows which one to kill!
I'm keen to use this so if I can help in any way with code snippets etc please yell. :-)

Ok I don't pretend to know everything about repeaters and Mode II, but I know for a fact that I got this working perfectly last night in mode II.

In the builder I set my ID to 6060 (means something to me!), and set the IP/Port to my ip address with 5500 as the port.

On my "clients" pc, I ran the Server.exe that it generated and it connected to my main PC running the repeater on port 5500 and logged in with the ID 6060.

Then on a spare computer I opened VNCViewer and in the server box at the top I put ID: 6060

and in the proxy/repeater box I put the ip address of the repeater PC. This connected in on port 5901 (which I had opened on my NAT router) and the two "remote" PCs instantly connected.

The 2 pc's where on seperate networks to my repeater PC, so to me that is definately Mode II.

Any help?

My problem was that the viewer didn't automatically connect to the repeater. I used process explorer to check how it was started I found the viewer had been started in listen mode. The command line was:

vncviewer.exe -dsmplugin MSRC4Plugin-122.dsm -listen 5900

which wont work as it doesn't have the -proxy switch in it.

As long as there are no firewalls or NAT traversals between the repeater and the servers Mode 1 will work fine even though they are on different subnets.

Ok, (and here's where I show my ignorance), but that doesn't seem to match with what I do.

The server.exe (that gets created from this program) is what runs on the persons computer that "needs help" and that connects to the repeater automatically....

But don't *I* connect to the repeater MANUALLY by opening the original vncviewer.exe and putting in the options as mentioned above? I certainly didn't use any exe created by this program for that part, I used the original exe from ultravnc package.

The viewer created by this program I only use for when I want to receive a connection directly to my own PC when I know i don't need a repeater at all....

What wrong end of the stick do I have?

Nothing wrong with that at all - it works perfectly! However it does rely on the Technician understanding VNC and VNC repeaters.

I want to generate Server/Viewer exe pairs that I can send to people (technician and user) who know nothing about VNC. In my case this is usually across NAT traversals that I have no control over.

Ultimately I will use uPNP, although for non uPNP routers a repeater will have to be used. I can already generate such pairs using a modified version of NiTr0's old 2008 scripts to do this. The new GUI is far easier than modifying scripts every time I want a new pair. :)

Allow me to clarify Safe Mode with Networking, PC was connected to the internet to download the Server.exe from website.

Autoit files tend to occasionally be detected (wrongly) as viruses ... i have have avast recently detect some of my older scripts (that i created myself) as viruses, but not the later ones ...

you could try sending the file to the virus scanner company, and ask them to fix the false detection ... if enough people do this, they may fix the problem ... then again maybe not

Hi mcwtim

I've been searching for days trying to find out how to use SC in safemode that -autoreconnects and found a solution that works like a charm. Tested only on XP so far.

Firstly download BootSafe.

Run the following from the Run command to put the instance in the registry then use BootSafe to reboot into Safemode networking. Once complete use it again to reboot into normal mode.

REG COPY HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\uvnc_service HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Network\uvnc_service /s /f

I leave the key in the registry as it's only inserted into the Safeboot section therefore I think it's doing no harm.

If you want to delete the key before disconnecting thats fine.

NiTr0 is this something that could be included in the next build?

Have a go and see what you think.

update:
i have used this a few times since my last post, and am having trouble with UAC.
the sc does not disable the UAC, and when i navigate to the control panel in vista to disable it the viewer throw a write error (WriteExact: Socket error while writing) and stops the connection.
am i missing something obvious? is this expected behaviour ?

ok, sorry, i think that reading the manual was needed :P - so if i compile this with user LEVEL it wont work with UAC, but if if i compile this with service LEVEL , the user will have to have admin rights...

what would you recomend if i need to connect to a machine on which the user have no admin rights, but still have UAC ?

Either have the client on the phone and click on things for you (if User level build) or have them save the file locally and Right Click>Run As Administrator (if Service level build). To disable or change UAC requires Admin level rights anyway.

The OnLine compiled version shows a message at the viewer when someone wants to connect, but this version does not, I think this must be a bug because is very important for the technician know who wants to be viewed, specially if the server is published in a public web page!!

Yes, just repeating that request here.

With previous inbound connections, SC use to pop up and say that someone was about to connect and gave you the option of saying Yes or No.

Is there a possibility that this option could be enabled somewhere in the program?

Thanks.

because this project is using 1053, and not the old (or an updated) sc, this is not possible, as 1053 (the standard uvnc server) doesn't have this as a "feature" ... so if you want this, you will have to wait till the uvnc devs update the SC app to the newest code stream ... this may take some time, as there are only a few of them, and the do it all in their spare time ... just as nitro did for this project ...

Just some things I noticed.

1. If you have / use less then 3 of the connection options. All 3 buttons still are visible and useless.

2. There are only 3 connections options. Could the connection buttons be turned back into a list that could support more then 3 connections ?

Yes, it's probably detecting that the program was made using AutoIT. Which can be used to script malicious programs, however this program is, obviously, completely legit.

However, while we know that, it's no use if SC is used to support customers. They won't trust you anymore if you have them use a program which their antivirus program detects as being a virus...

So, I'm still looking for a SC Vista solution which works without AutoIT... anyway, I do still appreciate all the effort that went into it!

Maybe I should look at SC again?

I thought VNC SC died with XP (never worked well in Vista).
So we went to PCHelpware.
Both were pretty good with XP, but Vista -- just too much lag.

So then we went to Advantig.com/Oneclick. He did a good job... but still too unstable / and slow/ in Vista. Oneclick has not updated in 4-5 months now.... so maybe it is dead product also.

So, should I jump back on this new flavor of SC ?

All I need is 4 clicks/ helpdesk control of PC/ and fast screen refresh.

This thread is encouraging, lots of activitiy.
Maybe this is the future of "SC" ?

We were really excited with PC Helpware, but is appears long inactive.
SC had critical mass 2-3 years ago, but faded away.

Is Nitro coming back to finish this application? If he is not perhaps he could pass on the code to someone else. Right now this solution isn't quite workable for us as we need more than 3 entries and we are having some of the same issues that others have raised here?

Also it says the software isn't free for commercial use, but an email to nitro asking for what was required by way of payment or donation yielded no response.

I'm totally happy to do the coding to finish it too. I'd rather not start from scratch!

I'm trying to use SC with repeater. All works fine in mode2 but i have 1 question :

-Is it possible in SC Server to ask user which ID to use ?

Did you try building it with "????" for the repeater ID?
I'm not 100% certain it will work that way given the way this sets the connection info and starts. But it costs nothing for you to try it.
