Can't connect to VNCserver on network

Post by mercurial »

Okay, this was all working just fine before. Had remote access from outside my Linksys router and all. Was running TightVNC but am giving Ultra a try now but it doesn't work either. This is a problem on my computer some where.

The service is started and doing a netstat I can see the port listening. My laptop on the same network can not access me through VNC. It acts as if my desktop is not listening. I can ping and access folders on my desktop from my laptop.

Only thing I can think of that may have fouled this up is Cisco's VPN Client or Zonelabs' Integrity Flex client. Both were being used for my work and Zonelabs' stuff started messing my comp up. Got both items completely removed from my system and it it still doesn't work.

No software firewall is present. I disabled my McAfee and adware/spyware monitoring tools and it still didn't work. Even uninstalled McAfee just moments ago and this still doesn't work. My only other options was to install Windows again.

Can any one point me in the right direction.

Are you using XP? Do you have SP2 installed if you are running XP?

IF you answered yes to both questions - its your XP firewall and SP2 that is locking down your computer. You have to explicitly set the port to be open on the firewall for it to work.

if thats not the case - not sure where to look.
