Hi
Whenever we use VNC Single Click and the MSRC4 DSM Plugin to connect to a Vista machine from a XP machine it does not work saying there is a problem with the plug-in.
It works fine XP to XP.
I really like Single Click but we need to use encryption as we are connecting to our clients.
Please help?
P.S. It works fine XP to Vista without the plug-in.

Problem with Vista
I have the exact situation as the original poster. I get errors saying the plugin can't be loaded, telling me to "check the integrity" of the file. (at one point it said "check spelling")
Running the server from the remote, I get errors on the client saying "wrong protocol." It says the probable cause is the server uses DSM (it does) but you failed to load it on the client.
I've set this up before, this is the first time on vista. After about a dozen attempts I noticed pressing the 'generate key' button does nothing. A search of the entire machine results in a shortcut to new_rc4.key in a temporary directory, but no actual key file anywhere. (I'd been using an existing one from a different install)
I tried running everything (including setup) in XP compatibility mode. I uninstalled and reinstalled using different versions. As with the OP unencrypted works. Eve3n taking the vista's installation verbatim to an XP machine works. (encrypted) So obviously as far as it goes the setup and run are correct, the problem has to be something in vista.
It isn't any firewall or other 'protection' either. I have that all off/uninstalled to get this going.
Anyone have any idea what I should be looking for? Like I said I have done this successfully a number of times. The only difference here is vista.
Thanks in advance, and thanks to the developers, this single click/uvnc is one of the most useful tools I've had the privilege to use.

Re: Problem with Vista - UVNC Single Click and MSRC4 DSM Plu
Hi pgmoney,
I believe you may have misunderstood the original poster.
I'm also having the same problem.
The problem is if vncviewer is running on Vista (and/or Windows 7), using the DSM plugin. Your screenshot seems to show vncviewer running on XP, with Vista running the SC server.
Other than that bit of confusion, I think slamjam99 and bugs have done a good job of describing the problem.

I should add, in my case rather than Vista I'm using Windows 7 x64. Still the exact same problem despite trying all the troubleshooting steps the others have mentioned.
Re: Problem with Vista - UVNC Single Click and MSRC4 DSM Plu
I figured out what my problem was - it may or may not help you.
It came down to two different versions of the DSM plugin.
The reason I ended up using a different DSM plugin was that the first one (used in my SC app), wouldn't locate the key file, so I (incorrectly) made the assumption I had been using a different (newer) version.
If you're using MSRC4Plugin.dsm, dated Jun. 3, 2005 @ 1:19 PM, with a file size of 14,848KB, then you need to add the path to the key file into your registry to get it to work.
Here's an export of the registry entry I made (copy between the lines):
==================================
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ORL\VNCViewer\DSMPlugins\MSRC4]
"KeyFile"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\ultravnc\\rc4.key"
"DebugLog"="0"
"GenKeyFile"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\ultravnc\\new_rc4.key"
==================================
Good luck!

Re: Problem with Vista - UVNC Single Click and MSRC4 DSM Plu
Is ultravnc sc supposed to work with Vista? If I run ultravnc viewer listen mode encrypt and send the helpdesk.exe file to another computer that is running Vista it seems to have problems. The encryption is turned on. I can see and move the mouse on the Vista computer. It seems though that there is a 20 second delay when I do things though. This is on my lan too. Also if I try to double-click something with the install shield I get disconnected. Would it work if I was able to get to the other computer in time to type in the administrator password? I want this to work over the internet but I'm just doing testing on my lan first. Is there a way to speed up this connection?

new SC vista compatible
[topic=15865][/topic]
you need to use same MSRC4Plugin.dsm include in the SC you receive after you sent helpdesk.txt to SC online creator

I found this thread...
http://mondotech.blogspot.com/2009/02/r ... pdesk.html
I created the file with the instructions in the post by Chris Voce and the files works great with Windows 7 as well as Vista. It disables Aero and UAC and re-enables them when the connection is broken.
