2 Vista Home Premium Issues (Aero and MS Logon) with UVNC

Post by nucleardirk »

hi together!

I recently changed from my old Laptop (XP Pro) to a Vista Home Premium Machine and got a few problems and hope you can help;)

1)
As soon as I install the VNC Mirror Driver Aero Glas is gone!
Is this a general Mirror-Driver issue? I like Aero and would like to have it as long as there is no VNC connection to the machine.

2)
I've read some words about in this forum, but to be honest, I do not understand.
I was used to get access on the XP Pro machine with MSLogon and Username Dirk and PW xyz.
No when I try to access the Vista Home Premium machine the VNC Viewer says: Login incorrect. even if the password / username combination is 100% correct.

Connection with standard VNC methods works well...

Any help with some easy words?
THX in advance

1) known issue fixed with winvnc, see number 2)

2) update both side.
you need update winvnc (remote)
right click on winvnc, stop service
replace file with this new file
http://sc.uvnc.com/1052/22okt.zip (extract only winvnc)

you need update vncviewer (local)

thx!

will check tomorrow if this might work.
but what I'm wondering:
if the mirror dirver is not suitable for aero - how can the winvnc.exe change this behavior? is winvnc.exe de-activation the driver while not using it?

is winvnc.exe de-activation the driver while not using it?
yes, this the one fix from many others fix :-)

video driver use by UltraVNC server only.
should be active only if ultravnc viewer connected to ultravnc server )aero disabled until viewer disconnected)
should be inactive if their no vncviewer connected to server. aero should be available.

hey!

got the Aero issue fixed - first it didn't wokr (no ieda why) but after re-installing, starting vnc server, closing, reboiting etc. I GOT Aero as long as no connection is established;)

but with the MSLogon...its not working at all. Maybe I'm to dumb or its too complicated for a vnc beginner.

I changed the vncviewer to the 23.october build, but a longon with User DIRK and PW xyz is not working. Wrong password is the error message.

Any idea which kind of mistake I may have done?

;(

After a reboot I got again the disabled AERO.
Maybe I made something wrong here as well...?!

I now disabled the mirror-driver manually and start it again when I want to start a uvnc session. but if someone got an idea how to solve...let me know;)

I have had similar issues when running Vista. I have found that if you have initiated a uvnc session and for whatever reason the server system crashes or has to be rebooted, then you have lost Aero for good. I had to do a repair install. I know that it's supposed to just temporarily turn Aero off, but after a reboot (after a hang/crash) Aero isn't even in the Personalize option of Vista. I even have some desktop icons all black after such a hang/crash.

The only satisfactory solution that I have found is to NOT use the mirror driver under Vista. It's slower that way, but at least it's usable.

I've made numerous posts about these issues but I haven't seen any resolution. This situation is not just on my local machines but also on 2 doctor's offices that each have 5-7 machines. All systems are plain vanilla Vista Home Premium machines.

Hey Dick!

Instead of a repair-install of Vista - did you try just to de-install the mirror driver? That worked for me. As long as mirror drier is de-active or de-installed my Aero Option came back and there is no need to do a repair installation.

I tried working without the driver - buts soo annoying lame due to the bad upload connection with a standart broadband in germany....

Nucleardirk,

Yes, I un-installed the mirror driver, but no luck. I googled about restoring Aero and tried all the remedies: still no luck. I tried re-installing the mirror driver: no luck. I finally did a repair install. It was relatively painless. Yes, uvnc without the mirror driver is painfully slow but at least it works. When a client calls, I can at least diagnose the problem and get an idea before I go and fix it.

I believe that the mirror driver conflicts with some of the fancier video cards and they goof each other up (technical term). The video cards today are so sophisticated and the mirror driver is still back in the 90's.

That's my opinion, for what it's worth...

jepp!
I got that build of the drivers.
I hope the developers will find a workaround which does not cause any conflicts in a decen ttime. in the meantime I go the manual way...
