Vista problem

Post by sandmannfg »

I have two vista machines, both connected wirelessly on my home network. One has Vista Home Premium and the other has Vista Home Basic.

When the Premium machine runs UVNC server and the Basic machine runs viewer, the connection runs without a hitch. When the connection runs the other way around, Basic-Server/Premium-Viewer, the connection fails on the viewer end. Viewer stats "VNC authentication failed!".

Is this a networking issue, OS issue, UVNC settings issue, or a combination of these? FYI- Firewall settings match on both machines.

Update - I got it to work, but only because I set the UVNC password as "." It will not work with a password such as "1234", "password", or "password08".

Update - I believe I've found the answer within minutes of posting this thread. It seems as thought you have to wait a few seconds after you set a new password. If you try to connect viewer immediatly after starting server with a new password, it will not connect. The differences in OS did not matter. It is just a matter of letting the server run a few seconds before connecting with viewer.

So in the end, having the two machines sitting right next to each other assisted human error. This proves that UVNC remains to be an exceptional product for my use. :)
