What is a Loopback connection?

Post by quatermass »

Title says it all....

What is it and why would I want to use it?

It's used when running the viewer on the same machine as the server. It can be used to test that the UltraVNC service is running properly.

It's also used when tunneling the traffic through an SSH tunnel, but that was probably more information than you were looking for.

Thanks for that.

I'd had never guessed that from its name. :D

I guess the developers had an off day that day! :-)

Has no one ever added tooltips to the program? Might be usual?

Documentation

Post by quatermass »

I see. I have to go to another web site to discover what it is. :P

Any particular reason why documentation on UltraVNC seems to be rather out of date or missing to a new user?

I've came across numerous instantiates of bad or missing documents.

The Repeater.exe being a prime example.

I don't want to sound rude. But maybe the development team need consider stopping programming for a month and get the documentation house back in order?
