XDMCP mouse=yes keyboard=no

Post by darkhelmetchris »

A friend and I are attempting to connect to a Windows box via UltraVNC using the XDMCP companion program. We can get everything working beautifully, but the keyboard data is not received properly.

Some tech notes:
1. Yes, we're using the XDMCP.EXE on the Win box.
2. We can authenticate to the Win VNC server by typing a password into the X client authentication box.
3. We can connect to the Win box from the Unix box over X, and receive the Win desktop screen.
4. We can move the unix mouse and see the Win mouse move, and we can click.
5. And here it is, we can NOT type on the unix box and get keyboard data into the Win box.

We have done some traffic analysis and we can see that the unix box is sending keystrokes, but can not see them received by the Win box. We do not know if the problem is in the XDMCP relay program or if it's a problem with the VNC server program.

We have tried this from Solaris Sparc, and also from Linux on a PC XFree86, and from Cygwin XFree86. The server has been Win2000 and Win98. All with same result.

Thoughts and comments?
- thought on isolating which module isn't receiving?
- other general thoughts?

XDMCP anyone else?

Just checking on the status of this post, and saw no one has replied. Are we the only ones attempting to use this feature? Sure could use some help as we're stumped.
