Hi all,
I used to have realvnc on my two servers, both with Win 2003 enterprise, then I installed ultravnc RC 18, then 19.3 on both.
On machine 1 the ultravnc service is registered but could not get started. I thought this could be because of the realvnc still installed and conflicting, so I removed it, removed and reinstalled ultravnc 19.3. That didn't help. I removed all what is related to vnc from the registry then reinstalled ultravnc, didn't work.
So to machine 1 I cannot connect because the service cannot start. When I try to start it either from the program group or from the services window I get a message that says: another instance of vnc is running, although it shows that the service is not running in the services window. Is there a utility that removes all what is related to vnc, which enables a clean install? Are there any registry keys that I need to change or remove?
On machine 2 everything is great except for the fact that I cannot change the password that I used to have from the older version of ultravnc 18. Whenever I try to change the password and hit either apply or OK, the password simply goes back to what I had before, it doesn't change. Any ideas?
Thanks for the help.

vnc instal and password issues
Server 1 - To start over cleanly - uninstall all instances of VNC (real or Ultra) Run a registry cleaner program, there are a ton of em.. and you can remove any RealVNC and or UltraVNC entries. Reinstall. If you want this to be a service after the installation go to the program folder and click on install as a service. Reboot and log in, your service should be running.
Or just through the program folder uninstall system service, reboot and then manually start the service. This shouldnt give you the error that the service is already installed. From here re-install the service and then you can reboot and see if it starts up properly. it should, if not do a clean install.
Server 2 - Ensure the password is changed under admin properties (from systray or default user properties), then also
If you tried this - doing a clean install (Uninstalling everything and doing a reg clean for all UltraVNC files) should also correct this problem for you.
Try that but if at all it fails, it never hurts to start over fresh
