Connection rejected

Post by gamera »

I have been successfully using vnc rc18 for months now to connect to a computer running win me.
Today all attempts to connect generate the message "connection rejected" . The viewer box shows "negotiating protocol" for about 20 seconds before the rejection box appears.
The password request box never appears.

I have tried accross the internet from an external machine as well as accross the local network.

I can also connect to other local machines without problems.

Standard questions are -
OS of Server / Viewer
Service for VNC enabled?
Server machine get any new patches or updates from microsoft?

Sometimes what occurs is after an OS upgrade patch either the system no longer works properly or that "Patch" breaks vnc. Seems to be the case with XPSP2 in some instances.

If there was a patch recently added to that machine you may consider removing the patch and seeing if you can connect. At least this way you know its the patch that is the root of the problem.

You could also try rc19.

Installed rc19. On reboot I got a msg that said no default password had been set. I set a new password and all was fine.

I assume that somehow the password had been lost and the rc19 update merely forced the program to bring it to my attention.

Anyway, all is well now. Thanks

There is a password difference between RC18 and RC19

RC19 don't have user passwd when you run as service.
If you start RC19 as service, it use the service settings for
all users. It does not longer switch the settings depended on the user that logon.

Runnning as application it behave as the old version, settings
are on user base.
