File Transfer :-(

Hi

I've been trying to send a file from my desktop to the person im trying to help but im having no joy

ive tried: 1. dragging the file on my desktop the other, 2. right clicking the file on my desktop and clicking "copy" then right clicking the persons desktop and clicking "paste". I've also tried putting hovering my cursor over the file on my desktop and holding down keys CTRL-ALT -C and then holding down keys CTRL-V on the persons desktop.

Can someone please tell me what im doing wrong ;-(

i dont think copy-paste works for anything than text

transfer files is done using the file-transfer window its a button on top of viewer saying "filetransfer"

I don't have a button saying "filetransfer"

I do have one that says: "Use ctrl-at-c to sync clipboard" and one that says " Use ctr-c to sync clipboard"

But what are the "Use ctrl-at-c to sync clipboard" and " Use ctr-c to sync clipboard" buttons used for?

Hi! gunsmoke,

The "Ctrl-Atl-C" should be OK to transfer files from/to between the connected computers.

Here is a brief description (assume transfer file from your end to remote pc)
1. At your end use the mouse to (left) click & select the file(s) you want to transfer, so that the background of those file(s) will become blue color.

2. Press "Ctrl-Atl-C"
You should see a popup, showing the transfering process. At this stage, PHW is sending the selected file(s) to remote pc.

3. After the transfer at step 2 finished, the files(s) should be put to the clipboard of the remote pc. Goto the remote pc screen, at the desired folder press "Ctrl-V" will paste those file(s) on it.


NOTE: the transfer may fail at following conditons:
a. Exceeds the 100MB (for each file transfer operation) limitation.

b. The transfered files, when reach remote pc, will be kept at a temporary folder "c:\temp_phw", which is hard coded and unchangable. If the user of the remote pc has not enough right to create this folder, or no right to read/write this folder, or (in rare case) the remote doesn't have the C: drive, the transfer will be fail.

c. If the source file is located inside a very deep path, the PHW will fail to transfer too. I havn't verified how long of a path can PHW take care, but alway put those files to a short path folder, or at desktop, can avoid this problem.

I did a bit of experimenting last night and I found that if I press the "Use ctrl-at-c to sync clipboard" button (so it turns green) I can then right click the file on my desktop and click "copy"(I then hear a few beeps) then I can right click on the remote desktop and click paste . and it transfers the file.

I would still like to know what the difference is between the "Use ctrl-at-c to sync clipboard" and one the " Use ctr-c to sync clipboard" buttons .

I will say, the two methods doing the exact same function.
Just because the developer want to provide an option of the file transfer operation as same as the normal windows copy/paste operation (Cntl-C / Cntl-V).

When you choose " Use ctr-c to sync clipboard", whenever you select & copy (press Cntl-C) a file at viewer end, it will copy it to the viewer pc clipboard AND ALSO transfer a copy to the clipboard of the remote pc. So if you then goto the remote pc window, press the Cntl-v will paste the file on somewhere at the remote pc.

There is a drawback. If you have a copy/paste operation that supposed be done on the viewer pc only (e.g. copy one file from one folder to another), the Cntl-c will also transfer a copy to remote pc. This is obviously not what you want to do, especially the file is a big one.


Under another operation mode, i.e. "Use ctrl-at-c to sync clipboard", you need to press ctrl-at-c to transfer a selected file to remote pc, and the normal ctrl-c will then work as normal


Question: What happen when right click the mouse and select COPY under the two mode?
I had never tested. I always use the Cntl-Atl-C for the transfer operation.
