Port Forwarding Unavailable. Alternatives?

Post by livewirepc »

I've been using UltraVNC for a couple years now to support our company's 45 remote locations. We recently took on a new location where I am unable to get port forwarding set up due to our internet access being provided by a 3rd party that will not allow us to forward a port on their router. Is there any way that I can get UltraVNC to work to connect to that site without port forwarding on their end? If so, please let me know!

Both UltraVNC SingleClick and PcHelpWare work using a reverse connection where the server initiates the connection to the listening viewer. This would require someone at the new location to initiate the connection, but doesn't require any port forwarding at the new location.

If you want to connect without someone on the other end you could use a trick Redge discussed in this post, [topic=5612]Connecting to an office PC from home[/topic], where you set up an Outlook email rule that initiates the connection at the new location.

If you have access to some server with a fixed IP, you can install a repeater on it. There is also a Linux version of the repeater available.
