Is there an introduction to the different codecs?

Is there an introduction to the different codecs?
I'm a bit unsure to what codec might be the best. I always use TIGHT but there might be a better one.

Maybe some codecs might even be overcome by now and could be removed from the program?

ZYWRLE":Enhanced VNC codec for Motion picture
ZYWRLE(ZLib YUV Wavelet Run Length Encoding)

related:
http://mobile.hitachi-system.co.jp/publications/ZYWRLE/

improvement over ZRLE
Problem of ZRLE:

* In Hi-color(above 32K colors) mode,
* In Natural image,

=> No Palette-lize, No RLE => Raw uncompressed data(Raw tile).

encoding ZYWRLE
not selected by default, select manual codec from vncviewer of 1.0.4 or higher ,
vncviewer ... Options ... -- Format and Encoding --
as well, this require ultravnc 1.04 server or higher.

I agree,
but only developers can remove the unused codecs.

my choice:
ZYWRLE for motion picture over low bandwith
hextile over LAN

There a 7 quick options (6 shown) but one can't be used for custom selection because not implemented codec settings like ZYWRLE + full colors

only from command line but here too, there missing command line parser of ZYWRLE
vncviewer localhost /noauto /encoding zywrle

Isn't TIGHT the best choice in general for internet connections?

Maybe the integrated codecs (or the offered choices within the GUI) can be reduced to about 3 choices?
Like TIGHT for normal use over internet, ZYWRLE and hextile?

Yes, but I think would not be available until next developper rewrite the front end, so unavailable for 105.

I was talking many time improve the GUI as like TightVNC (user friendly) and the performance of UltraVNC for the core but there no programmer at all except exist for commercial product.
