" Unknown VNC Authentication Result " error?

Today I got "Unknown VNC Authentication Result" Error on my work client when I was trying to access my home server, after I typed in the password. Subsequent attempts resulted in a "your connection has been rejected error" without the password screen prompt.

If I waited a few minutes I could re-access the password screen prompt but again get the "Unknown VNC Authentication Result". Grrrr...

This connection has been working well and no changes have been made since it was last working.

This thread [topic=6413][/topic] has a similar (but not identical) error, but the procedure he went through to replicate it is not at all the same as mine.

I know uTorrent is running on the Server (old PIII Tualatin 1.2GHz, 512MB RAM) at the moment and maybe a screen saver, but the latter is normally not at all problematic.

Is there anything I can do to get past this or is my hardware is just too slow to run anything else simultaneously. I have had no problems in the past.... albeit when NOT tunning a torrent

I believe this would only happen if the server machine is somehow stopping the service by itself. I have not done (stopped the service) remotely, so IF this is the problem, the underlying issue is still "why does the service stop".

Correct that is the situation that happens Whe you restart the service if you dont click on service helper you may not be able to transfer files


There seems to be an issue with verison 1.02 that causing the service to basically stop responding. Now I am not noticing this issue using windows XP Pro, Media Center and 2003 Sever but there are alot of users that are having this issue. The developers are aware if it and they are looking for the cause of the problem..

The bug was found on linux though, but i think it should apply to win version and maybe to UltraVNC. Worth of a check

I still get this "Unknown VNC Authentication Result" error at random intervals. Restarting the PC, (or VNC and / or the service helper) fixes it. But this requires someone to manually boot it up, which is a Royal bother.

Any chance of a fix for this?

Nope, they're not doing it for me. I've been running both of them for about a month. I THOUGHT it was OK, but it's not.

Would it be possible for one of the UVNC code writers to try the fix in the 2004 reference from misterti. I am still troubled by this error message and it's driving me crazy. Bevtech's solution to restart the server AND the service helper works, but I can't do that remotely

I'd like to note that I'm still getting this in 1.04RC12. It worked OK for a while, but now it's back.

I get through OK to where you type in the password, then presto, "Unknown VNC Authentication result". Grrr.

Are there any logs I can post or anything, this is PITA for me, I have to call home and ask someone to reboot the computer everytime....

I would update to RC14 soon enough there will be a stable 1.0.4 out.

Fixes a few issues and it might just do it for you.

Update to "unknown vnc authentication result"

When connecting VNCviewer 1.0.4 rc13 (1.0.4.914) it hangs on Password accepted. Then gives the error "unknown vnc authentication result"

Is there a trace I can run for the developers?
Can I provide any more information?

if you read further down the topic pgmoney has released quite a number of fixes and the respective files on that same topic.

download those and replace only the .exe contained on install DIR by the ones pgmoney's posted in a zip.
