Hostnames for Repeater in Only Allow Connection to Server

Post by jksmurf »

Hi

Point 11 of the repeater pdf guide notes that ONLY IP addresses are permitted in the field "Only Allow Connection to Server". I'd really like to see hostnames permitted :-)

I'm curious as to why it can't do this i.e. why it can't be a local hostname (name of my PC)? I connect with a local hostname in the VNC server field, and it resolves that OK.

In addition, as a test I put in the local hostname in the "Only Allow Connection to Server" field and the log showed it RESOLVING the local hostname to the SAME IP address OK, but gives an error and doesn't connect. USING IP ADDRESS ONLY WORKS OK.

USING LOCAL HOSTNAME Resolves IP but Fails?

I had occasion to install 1.04RC12 on my wife's PC and realised I STILL would very much like to see this implemented. How about throwing it into the new RC, that's be really great, thanks!

If you're going to put anything new into the upcoming 1.04 release, I'd still like to see this!!

from my pont of view I thing it would be impossible to implement connection via repeater with hostname. This is because Host name is used only via LAN not WAN for wan you use IP/dynDNS only.

From networking point of view its not possible

current 1,0,5 supports host nam within lan and this support has existed for a long time all you need is to have a proper network set up. :-D
