pchelpware server freezes viewer, "Waiting for Viewer&q

Post by oskie »

I'm trying to set up PCHelpware instead of UltraVNC SC (the latter works fine). I have created simple PCHelpware that does a direct connection to the viewer machine. I have verified network connectivity by telnetting to port 5500 on the viewer. I'm running UltraVNC Viewer in listen mode. But whenever I start the server the viewer program freezes up - no dialog asking if I want to show the session, nothing. When I right click the UltraVNC Viewer icon in the taskbar no menu is shown. All I see on the server is this:

Start
Connecting dierct
<IP>
Connect direct success
Setting up encryption
Waiting for Viewer...

When I stop the server, the viewer suddenly comes back alive again.

I am not using encryption. I have tried with a repeater as well (same problem - the viewer is frozen until server is stopped).

I have tried the server on Windows Server 2003 SP2 machines (DEP disabled), and the viewer on 2003 as well as Vista. I have tried UltraVNC 1.0.2 and 1.0.4 RC14 (simple installations of the viewer only, without video driver).

Any idea what's going on?

Regards,

Oskar

I suppose you need PCHW viewer.
PCHW is said to be compatible with UVNC only on helphesk.txt level, not in protocol level. It is different product.

That did it! I knew it had to be something as simple as that. :)
Now the only problem I have is that I can see the remote computer's screen, but I cannot control it. I'm controlling a Windows Server 2003 SP2 machine from Vista. Any ideas?

In fact, I am not familiar much with Vista and not at all with W2k3 server.
I have just played very little with PCHW recently as SC replacement for remote support for my non-IT friends.

UVNC servers have an option allow/not to allow remote input.
If not allowed, then only looking and advising is possible.

when creating a PCHW custom server, is there such an option ?

Edit: ( Not handy here at work to look at )
Well, even uvnc viewer has option "view only", so check both in
pchw server (e.g. newly created) and viewer.
