Video driver installation fails
I am attempting to install the video drivers on a Windows 2000 machine using the "install" command in command prompt but am not having any luck. UltraVNC Viewer installs and works without issue but when I install the video driver I receive the error "Driver installation failed".
I have not been able to successfully install this on two separate Windows 2000 Pro machines.
What am I doing wrong please?
Cheers.

I had the same problem you all had. I am running WinXP SP2. I finally got it work by putting the setupdrv.exe and the Driverupgrade folder in c:\ and then typed "setupdrv install". It worked then. It did not work when I typed "setupdrv.exe install" or any other combo. I was very frustrated as well but this seemed to have worked. Hope it works for you too.

video driver
I'm stuck. I can't get the video driver to install on my windows XP SP2 host pc. I've unzipped all the files to the C: drive, but I still get "driver installation failed" message. Are there any other ideas on how to install the video driver? I don't have any previous versions installed and I do have the latest version. Somebody please help.

but you see nothing...(no pop-up)
but you can check if installed:

Video driver installation fails
I don't know if anyone is interested but I have created for my own benefit some detailed documentation on how to install the video driver for rc18 on Windows XP SP2 - based on what I have gleaned from this dialog and some experimentation:
To install/uninstall UltraVNC RC18 video driver on Windows XP SP2 (Pro & Home):
Note: only need to install on the server, not the viewer.
INSTALL
(1) Use Windows Explorer to copy c:\...\setupdrv.exe to c:\setupdrv.exe
(2) Use Windows Explorer to copy c:\...\driverupgrade to c:\driverupgrade
(3) Turn off all virus protection.
(4) Launch the command prompt then key:
chdir c:\
setupdrv install
(5) Screen may go blank temporarily then should get a box stating:
Driver Service installed, will be activated after reboot
Click OK
(6) Turn on all virus protection
(7) Reboot
(8) To check driver installed OK:
Control Panel
System
Hardware
Device Manager
Display adapters
(double click) Winvnc video hook driver
(9) Use Windows Explorer to delete c:\setupdrv.exe and c:\driverupgrade
UNINSTALL
(1) Close down UltraVNC service
(2) To uninstall driver:
Control Panel
System
Hardware
Device Manager
Display adapters
(right click) Winvnc video hook driver
Uninstall
Click OK
Click Yes to reboot

How can I tell if the video driver is working?
I can access the remote computer via vnc. The driver appears to be installed properly, as shown in the device manager. However, if I right-click the vnc icon on the remote computer (i.e. through the remote session) and check the properties, a test of the video reveals:
Driver EXIST
Communication server EXIST
Driver current not ACTIVE
I am using WinXPSP2 and RC19.5 on both machines
Does that last line mean that the video hook driver is not operating during the remote session, or am I misunderstanding the text. What should the last line say when the driver is functioning properly and is active?
The only reason I'm asking is that the connection seems very slow over my LAN connection, and the vnc server machine has no virus checker or other stuff running in the background.

Driver active : You can only have this while a connection with the viewer is active.
When driver and communication service are installed, winvnc
needs to be able to activate the driver.
If the user has limited registry access and you run winvnc as application, you need to change the registry key access to allow that user to activate the driver.

I know the viewer has to be active, my user account is administrator. What do I need to change under that section of the registry?Rudi De Vos wrote:Driver active : You can only have this while a connection with the viewer is active.

Winvnc put the Attach.ToDesktop to 1(on) 0(off) before
executing the ChangeDisplaySettings function.
As administrator you always have enough access, strange.
Try to put manual the Attach.ToDesktop to 1 and check that it make any difference.
Winvnc logging ? anything special in it about the driver activation
