SC Client can connect to Vista but not XP Pro

Post by mitelman »

Hi,

I have been able to successfully create the SC client and deploy to several test PC's. I have setup the port forwarding on my firewall, 5500 to my XP machine, 5502 to my vista pc. Problem is that when ever people try to connect to my XP machine on 5500 I get the following error:

Connection failed- Error reading Protocol version

Possible Causes:
-You've forgotten to slect a DSM plugin and the server uses a dsmplugin
-Viewer and server are not compatible (they use different RFB protocoles)
-Bad connection

however when people connect to my vista machine on port 5502 everything works fine. I have tried redirecting the ports on my firewall (5500 to vista and 5502 to XP) but it does not make any difference. Vista continues to work and XP does not. If I create a lan entry in my helpdesk file the XP machine will take the incoming connection. when I add an XP laptopn to the mix and forward 5500 to that I have the same issues.

Firewall on XP is disabled, enabled on Vista. Both are running viewer 1.02.

I have uninstalled, reisnstalled several times on the XP machine, tried creating encryption, did not make any difference.

Any ideas?

Simon

sc with public ip or dynamic dns service (not applicable for private IP)
add dns1 and dns2 of your isp to your network card computer XP
UltraVNC 1.0.9.6.1 (built 20110518)
OS Win: xp home + vista business + 7 home
only experienced user, not developer

Using dynamic IP with DynDNS.

DNS entries are the same for both machines
