Hello! I think I have understood correctly what to do, and I have successfully set up LAN connections, but want someone to let me know if I have set up the WAN-Repeater connection properly.
On the Viewer machine...
I have run the viewer exe, and have set up the connection:
* Alias (laptop-remote)
* Password (x)
* Via Repeater
* Repeater ID (143800)
* Host Repeater (vserver.homeftp.org)
* Listen Port Viewer (5900)
* Listen Port Server (5500)
The Test validated OK for Viewer and Server. I have saved this, and have run the Create Server process.
I have also run the repeater.exe, and have the following settings:
* Viewer port(5900)
* Server port (5500)
* Enable proxy443 and Mode II
* Only allow connection to server (noIP dynamic DNS server name)
* Restrict access to server port 0
* Enable dynamic IP service
Do I understand correctly that I need to run the repeater.exe with the same settings on the client (server) computer? If so, then I believe I need to:
1. Start the repeater on Viewer (my laptop)
2. Start the viewer using the laptop-remote settings
3. Start the repeater on Server (the remote client)
4. Start the server exe file I created earlier and emailed to the client
Is this all correct and in the correct order, or did I do something either wrong or unnecessary?
On another side note, I have this message in my repeater log. What do I need to do to fix this?
accept() failed, errno=10022
Check if port is not already in use port=443
Thanks for your patience with me...I am a newbie to this sort of process, and hope to soon be a veteran - with your help!
Don

Confirm process for repeater use

Re: Confirm process for repeater use
With this setting, the viewer & the created server will use the repeater vserver.homeftp.org, they will not touch you own repeater.don.johnson wrote:On the Viewer machine...

It is absolutely true the server, viewer, and repeater must be running with matched & proper setting, but it doesn't mean the viewer & repeater need to be running on the same computer, you may have them running either on: 3 separated pc; or viewer & repeater running on the same pc; or server & repeater running on the same pc. The key point is that: the repeater must be reachable by both viewer & server.don.johnson wrote:Do I understand correctly that I need to run the repeater.exe with the same settings on the client (server) computer? It means the repeater fail to bind port 443 (you have Enable proxy443 and Mode II). Most likely the port is used by other program,don.johnson wrote:I have this message in my repeater log. What do I need to do to fix this?
accept() failed, errno=10022
Check if port is not already in use port=443
But as I said, your server & viewer use the repeater vserver.homeftp.org, your own repeater doesn't affect the connection test.

Re: Confirm process for repeater use
Thanks, YY...I think this is better now...based on the above settings and discussion...is this correct?
On Viewer machine, start the "laptop-remote" configuration, which uses the external repeater (homeftp.org), then
On Server machine, start the exe server I created, using the same external repeater (homeftp.org)
and I should be operational...
Am I right in thinking that if I wanted to use my own repeater, this machine must be both WAN and LAN accessible - IOW, it must sit outside my NAT or firewall? And if I use this, I just need to change the repeater address to this machine?
Thanks again, I will get this - little by little!

Yes, it is correct. Of course, the server & viewer must be using the same ID & password.don.johnson wrote:On Viewer machine, start the "laptop-remote" configuration, which uses the external repeater (homeftp.org), then

That is right.don.johnson wrote:Am I right in thinking that if I wanted to use my own repeater, this machine must be both WAN and LAN accessible
Not a must..... if you are allowed to configure the NAT & Firewall so the PHW signal can reach the repeater, then it is OK to have the repeater sitting behind the the NAT/Firewall. This usually involves the setting of Port Forwarding & Firewall Rule.don.johnson wrote:it must sit outside my NAT or firewall?
That is right. You get it.don.johnson wrote:And if I use this, I just need to change the repeater address to this machine?
