I have drawn a blank here. Please help if you can!!!
I have a small business server 2003 setup. I have installed the repeater version 2.
I am not able to connect to vnc servers on my local network when I attempt to use the repeater proxy.
The symptoms are the same for a connection to the repeater internally or externally. The repeater recieves the connection on port 5901 and then does a dns lookup. This is successful, then it attempts to connect to the ip address of the vncserver on port 5900.
This then fails with a error no = 0.
I can however connect directly to any internal vnc server from the sbs2k3 server itself either by name or by IP address.
All External connections on port 5901 are forwarded to the SBS2k3 server by the ADSL router and a rule has been added to the firewall on the sbs box to redirect port 5901 on the public interface to 127.0.0.1. on sbs box.
The symptoms are the same with a connection to the repeater from a local pc which uses the local/private interface of the server.
I am not sure what the problem is, it appears to be a routing issue, but any help would be appreciated.
The sbs2k3 server has 2 network cards.

Repeater Error number 0
to quote you on this too for clarification -
All External connections on port 5901 are forwarded to the SBS2k3 server by the ADSL router and a rule has been added to the firewall on the sbs box to redirect port 5901 on the public interface to 127.0.0.1. on sbs box.
I hope you mean that the firewall rule forwards all 5901 port requests to 192.168.7.x , not 127.0.0.1 - that rule would have your router as the device those ports go to. 127.X.X.X is a loopback address... not trying to be mean just stating a fact.
right?
And of course there is no W2K3 Firewall blocking port 5900 (Default connection port for viewer) going out to your host machines right?

loopback etc
thanks for your replys. To clarify, my adsl router forwards port 5900 to the public facing ip address of my win2k3 server.
Under routing & remote access I have added the service for vnc on port 5900. It seems that most services have by default have a private address of 127.0.0.1 (loopback). Changing this to the private ip address of the nic card on win2k3 server makes no difference.
When I attempt a connection by hostname, the repeater is able to resolve the ip address but then fails with a connection error = 0.
This happens also when I attempt to connect from a pc on the local lan. However i can vnc from the server to any pc on the lan by hostname if I do not use the repeater service.
I hope this explains my problems a little bit clearer
Many thanks
