connectin problem in wan

Hi, guys, I did everything according to singleclick_stepbystep.pdf and successfully tested it in LAN (I adjust viewer to listening mode). However, when it comes to WAN, nothing worked out except error information I got like below.

Connection failed - Error reading Protocol Version
Possible causes:
-You've forgotten to select a DSMPlugin and the Server uses a DSMPlugin
- Viewer and Server are not compatible (they use different RFB protocoles)
- Bad connection

wondering why. could any of you give some hints?

You need to replace your LAN IP with your WAN IP. Go to whatsmyip.com and replace that ip in your helpdesk.txt file and recompile.

I did type my WAN IP in helpdesk.txt. plus I set up my router configuration. it just worked in LAN, but not WAN.

Below is soluation I found in other thread,

HOST]
Remote Internet PC Support
-connect 123.222.123.222:5500 -noregistry

The entries above (while altered to be ONLY examples) fail you
because your "Client" PC will insist on trying to use your LAN connection
to get to your "Support" PC rather than going out to the Internet
& than returning back to you as you'd like to test via the "Support" PC's Internet connection


A solution is to create an alternate dial up connection on your "Client PC"
to get it onto the Internet. Then Disable your "Client" PC LAN connection & initiate the dialup connection

Then allow SC on the "Client" PC to "find" its way back to your "Support" PC, over the connection that the "Support" PC usually uses

Allow ping request and then test your WAN connection.

I didn't set up ping block in my router, it's weird that no body is allowed to ping me from outside. any ideas?

I know this reply is probably a little late, but just to let you know...

your Internet Service Provider is probably to blame for not allowing ICMP packets to make it to your WAN IP. For security reasons, most ISP's block ping, tracert, etc. to prevent hackers from determining if your IP is active. Not completely effective, but it keeps the novices away while they use generic IP address scanners.
