Ignore "Query on Incoming Connection" when nobody

Post by darkdep »

Here's the scenario: We use UltraVNC as a helpdesk support tool in our build. Due to the sensitive nature of the data on some of the user's workstations, we've turned on the "Query on Incoming Connections" setting with a timeout of 30 seconds so that if a helpdesk analyst attempts to connect to a users PC, they have to accept the connection.

But, we've had users call up and ask for one of the techs to complete an installation or some other thing, but they were not logged on. So, UltraVNC still wants acceptance, but it can't get it (first because nobody is logged on to accept the connection, and second because the Query window isn't even visible if nobody is logged in! X=) ) We've also had the call that the machine wouldn't log into the domain, and it's pretty hard to get a user to log in to accept the connection in that case as well!

Turning the setting off isn't an option: We've put a policy in place that a user must accept an "over the shoulder" type RC connection.

Ideally, the server would ignore this setting if nobody was logged in. Any chance of this?

When no user is logged in, winvnc retrieves registry settings with the username of "SYSTEM".

Try this setting to override the default *per-user* setting:

HKLM\Software\ORL\WinVNC3\SYSTEM\QuerySetting (DWORD) 2
