Howdy,
I've got an issue where I can connect via url addy through a browser, but as soon as I gain access to the remote computer, the screen freezes and eventually I get a "Network Error: Connection reset" notice.
A brief introduction to details:
I have four computers involved, which should assist troubleshooting.
Let's call them A, B, C & D.
A is Remote A PC
B is Remote B PC
C is Local laptop
D is Local Desktop PC
All have the same version of Windows XP SP2 installed.
Remotes A & B have Ultr@VNC 1.0.1 installed. I've used this version for over a year, and when 1.0.2 came out, I tried it and had too many problems, so I went back to 1.0.1 and everything worked fine -- well, not everything. I have always had a problem connecting using the Ultr@VNC SW on the local computer (D), so I found that typing in the URL directly worked a lot more reliably, so that's how I've been connecting for the last year.
Now a curious problem is occurring and I cannot nail it down. It seems that when I connect with local D to remotes A or B, I get the VNC Authentication window and enter the password, and it connects right away. I can see whateve is on the screen be it desktop or screensaver or application. There is no issue until I attempt to control the remote computer. As soon as I try to move the mouse, the screen will freeze and eventually I get the error notice.
To eliminate the remote computers and the DSL line that I am using, I connected laptop C and have a completely successful connection.
I can't afford to lose the connection with laptop C, so I don't want to change any settings on the remote computers A or B, which are like 1000 miles away from me. The problem seems localized to PC D, which I could change any settings on now since it won't hurt anything now.
Any help would be appreciated. Ultr@VNC is so cool; I hope I can get it working again.
Thanks,
~Dan

Re: connection resets immediately upon remote control
I appreciate the reply, redge. I'm thinking there is another way, because I cannot go to the remote computers to make the change, and since it works with local C to remote A and local C to remote B just fine, the problem must be something with local D. Since I'm not usnig the Ultr@VNC viewer on D (or C for that matter), I'm expecting it's some setting that I haven't found yet. Thanks again for thinking about it.

Re: connection resets immediately upon remote control
here is another thing you can try
if the VNC servers closes your connection right after you type in the password.
then it's most likely using the wrong connection settings for it's speed
so just change it to Medium, or lower, then connect again.
Don't use Auto, most times will fail in Auto.
If Medium doesn't work for you, keep trying lower and lower settings until you can find Stable connection that doesn;t closes on you after you type in the password.

Re: connection resets immediately upon remote control
Thanks, AllGamer, for the thought. It doesn't disconnect as soon as I enter the password, though. It will let me connect and hold open for almost as long as I want to, and sometimes I can even move an icon on the mousetop. However, if I try to open a program, it just freezes.
Anyway, I sort of solved this with a shotgun approach. Since my 'puter was three years old, I decided to upgrade, and after a new motherboard and CPU, the problem has resolved. Kind of an extreme measure, but in the end it was justified and my boss paid for it anyway!
So this issue is officially closed. Thanks to those who posted a reply.
