New User with VNC

Post by jim44212 »

First time using UltraVNC and I have a question. Will this work between two computers that are on different ISPs? I would like to help out a family member with their computer problems. He uses one ISP, I use another. Both are behind Cable modems/routers so our IP's are Nat'd by the routers. What address would I configure to be able to get to his computer? Also, since I would always be going to his computer, is his computer considered the server and mine the viewer? In order for me to get to his computer, would he have to initiate the session?

Thanks in Advance,

Jim in Cleveland

Welcome to the Forum.

Check out EchoVNC and or InstantVNC its a tweaked version of UltraVNC v1.0.2 that allows just what you want to do without having to tweak any firewall stuff.

Have the PC you want to remote to run InstantVNC.exe and you install EchoVNC and open the EchoVNC Viewer to connect to the PC you want to remote to. Its almost that easy.

Good luck,
