Unable to register WinVNC as a Service

Post by nels0567 »

After I've installed ultraVNC v1.0.0 RC 18 I tried typing winvnc -install in the command prompt. Every time I do this, I receive the same error; The Service Control Manager could not be contacted - the win VNC service could not be registered. I'm in the c:\program files\ultraVNC directory. I have rebooted my computer. I'm not sure what else I can do. I would really like this to be running after start up. Any work-arounds out there?

Not to sound dumb but are you using NT,W2K,XP or W2K3?

98 doesnt run this as a service.

Just my 0.02 hints...

Are you sure you are logged on as a local admin - i.e. do you get the same error trying to install another service (like, say realvnc as service) ?

If you are really logged on as admin, then try to wait a LONG time after reboot - sometimes it may take up to half an hour for the Service Control Database to be available, for ex. if some other services or devices time out or take a long time to initialize.

godspeed

Im not sure if its any different but did you go through the start - programs - ultravnc - ultravnc server - Select Install VNC service?

If that comes back with the same problem you could always set up your own service through xp

If this comes up with the same problem I dunno.
