SC with Encryption (without repeater) SOLVED plus a TIP

Post by cynthiak »

I'm writing a little note to those struggling with single-click encryption that I could have used. I searched for it before I solved the problem I was having and after and couldn't find this tip, so if anyone else has done this post then I apologize. I was able to get SC w/o encryption to work easily, but as I tried various incarnations of encryption I got various errors and just couldn't figure out why it was so HARD. What I finally discovered was that the answer was there all along, but I missed it. Isn't that how it always is?

This FAQ is absolutely correct: [topic=3278][/topic]
(dlb clarifies the same instructions in this post so you might use them instead: [post=12508][/post])

The key for me was in step #5. He says, "Rename MSRC4Plugin_NoReg.dsm to MSRC4Plugin.dsm"

I found that I am to leave the file in the UltraVNC listener folder (on my machine) intact as "MSRC4Plugin_NoReg.dsm" and make sure my command lines reflected this filename. However (here it comes) I needed to Rename MSRC4Plugin_NoReg.dsm to MSRC4Plugin.dsm JUST FOR THE SINGLE-CLICK EXECUTABLE.

I had noticed in all my reading that there seemed to be a discrepancy in whether I was to rename the .dsm file or not. In utter desperation I finally re-read this post again and found the solution in front of my face. Apparently the SC executable (or some configuration we don't set in the help file) only picks up the encryption plugin (the .dsm file) if it's named MSRC4Plugin.dsm and ignores it if it's not. I included the renamed plugin in the .zip file, built the executable, and viola! "Instant" success.

I also noticed a discrepancy in different posts about whether to include the .dsm plugin file in the zip file or not. Clearly the answer is, "DO include it", renamed as described above.

ADDITIONAL TIP: I wish I'd found this post earlier. It describes how to test your SC versions without using the online creator every time!: [topic=5185][/topic] I have not tested this myself but hope it works for you!

(These notes refer to Ultra VNC 1.02 and v1.2.2 of the .dsm plugin)

I hope this is helpful to someone. This is such a wonderful project and of such great use, I hate to have anyone struggle as I have (especially since it was so simple in the end)

Next I hope to post a picture of the SC interface that links to all the parts of the help file - that took me awhile to decode.

NOTE TO MODERATOR: I'd like to see the main SC FAQ by redge (listed above) edited to incorporate the clearer version by dlb (also listed above) with the addition of this note if it rings true. I'd be happy to prepare this updated version (with credits to redge and dlb) so that others may suffer less.
