Console type program for VNC

Post by dj »

Can anyone recommend a good plugin or something for VNC to keep a long list of the IP addresses someone might use often...I wish VNC was able to do this easily similarly to PCanywhere, where you can save your connections and preferences for each...Will new versions come with this ability?

i know they always look for suggestions and I believe this has come up.

But it never hurts to do a "Friendly" reminder to em.

Best way to save ip's..

notepad?

i'm not sure if this is better then notepad.. but you could always make a bunch of shortcuts with the address preset in the cmd line, and then name the shortcuts the ipaddresses.... that might be more work then its worth. ;p

edit: btw, how big of list are you wanting? ive got 7 addresses in the little drop down box. Also, wasnt there some file you could create then direct winvnc to, and the file would have all the info preset in it?
using latest code.... always... except when im not.

I have about 35 ip's right now...I have looked at putting them in the registry to fit in the drop down list but I like to sort them by name as well and that list always puts the last connected on top

Actually I was thinking, is there a way to have VNC stop sorting the ip's in its list by last connected so I could arrange the list how I wanted via the registry?

I dont know of a way, but that seems like an easy change/fix/hack etc. If theres not a way, probably just a line of code to be commented out and then compile the thing and tada.

Since Im thinking about it,

If you are connecting to 35 different servers they each have a server name. If they are on different networks (outside your own) then you could specify a host file (c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts) wheras you type in the name in the connect window and it connects via your host file. You can even give them whatever name you wish - e.g. - 192.168.0.20 Web01

If they are internal to your network why not just use names instead of IP's? I know it makes it nicer to see the name but.. again I default to notepad for reference of what ip is what server or what services are provided by what server. If you do this it wouldnt be a bad idea to pw protect it through winzip. or Just make a pw to open a MS doc.
